Hi Guys,

My Xbox (~2yrs old) gave me the RRoD. It's the old model, and I have been burning to get new model with the HDMI. So this was good excuse. (Still plan to repair/swop the old one - cant remember when or where I bought it, and definetly dont have the proof of purchase anymore, neither the original packaging)

So now I my new XBox with HDMI-an-all.

Here's my problem:

When I set the new xbox to 1080p, there is a strange yet very irritating flicker every now and then, if you blink you wont see it, but you do and its very annoying.

What would cause this? I can't remember if I ever set my old xbox to 1080p I never changed settings for years on the thing.

When I put it on 1080i, 720p the flicker seems to go away.

Even tried another component cable - same thing.

When I use a HDMI cable, its seems I can only select 1080i, 1080p is grayed out. Is this Xbox, cable or TV? Don't really understand it. Oh and on the HDMI cable the flicker does not happen, but it could be because its only running at 1080i?

When I use the VGA cable and set the resolution to 1920x1080 there is also no flicker. When using this setup, is this effectively Progressive or Interlaced?

So in summary:

Why is there flicker on component at 1080p?
Why can't I select 1080p on HDMI?
Is VGA progressive or interlaced at 1920x1080 resolution?

Thanks for any advice/suggestions in advance.

Ok,

I think I figured it out.

Nothing wrong with XBox.

Its my TV.

What I can gather is that although LG claims its a FULL HD 1080p TV - its not! (42LB7RF)

It may receive a 1080p signal, but downscales it - hence the flicker, cant keep up.

When using the HDMI cable the xbox can detect whats really the native res.

Even in the owners manual its says:

Signal Component 1/2 HDMI1/DVI, HDMI2
==============================================
480i/576i Yes No
480p/576p Yes Yes
720p Yes Yes
1080i Yes Yes
1080p(50hz/60hz) Yes Yes

I conneted Sammy Syncmaster 2494hs with HDMI and now 1080p becomes available and crystal clear, perfect image. The monitor confrms it in the info screen... 1920x1080p (64hz - if i recall)

Does all this make any sence to anyone? Or did I have one cup of coffee to much?

Thanks

Spot on there:-) Component is a analog signal hence it cant detect your displays highest settings. HDMI is a digital signal.

i hate the issue with the HD tv's they really outh there to trick us, everyone promising FULL HD but most of the time they just downscale the signals , so yeah they all receive 1080p input but very few output it too, :P

but hey, the xbox looks lekker on full HD that is if it doesn't RROD on your @ss
