Hi

Bought a new Gigabyte Geforce 9400GT PCIe card yesterday. Did a clean install of Vista Ultimate 64bit which all went fine but after installing the latest Geforce drivers and rebooting you only get to the login screen, login then after a very short while the system freezes.

I'm using an Asus Striker Extreme motherboard with Intel E7400 cpu, Audigy2 and Netgear Wifi card.

Any ideas? Could the graphics card be faulty?

Uninstall the "latest" drivers and install the drivers that came with the card

Tried that as well - formatted and reinstalled windows then isntalled the drivers that came with the card - exact same thing.

I think the next step is to download the latest drivers from the Gigabyte website and if that doesn't work test it in another machine.

friday card...

If it didn't work out the box... just get a brand new one.

Quick update.

Moved the card to a different PCIe slot and it's working 100% now. :)

Then it would be a good idea to return the board if it is stil under warrenty ,just in case you need the extra PCIe slot in the future(for sli or whatever).I apologise if i am stating the obvious.

Maybe try another fresh format reinstall - if problem persists then something not kosher with that board.

Well it maybe that only of those slots work for a single card and both will run fine with 2 installed but im guessing here :p

This is where it gets interesing. Decided to ditch the 9400GT and tried a 8800GTS in the same slot that wasn't working before. Works 100%

Not sure what, how or why but it looks like for some reason the 9400GT isn't compatible with that slot or something. Google also told about people having problems with 9XXX cards and BIOS compatibilities but no clear cut conclusions.

I'm just happy it works and the 8800GTS outperforms the 9400GT by a huge margin. :) My next frustration is hitting the 4.0Ghz mark but that's a different story.
