Hi i wonder if you guys can help me? I am considering changing to adsl from isdn in an attempt to limit call charges but have some specific questions. Does network shaping or port prioritzation affect yahoo messenger and newsgroups or can i expect "good" bandwidth on these apps. Your help would be much appreciated
David

I have no problems using the SAIX news server (news.saix.net) after being capped, as it is local. In fact speeds are good. If you use groups that are only found overseas then you may have a problem. Run a local NNTP server (like leafnode) that gets the groups you are interested in every few minutes, then you will not "feel" any network slowness.

You can also work out whether ADSL + a second account is cheaper than your current ISDN costs.

I chat on msn and its fine. When sending files through msn its not bad - locally... If i send to someone locally who has 56k i normaly get 4-5kBps and to someone locally with isdn about 7-8. I havent tried it internationally.
