Hi guys

Have been having serious problems with exceeding limits with my ADSL account with Tiscali.
I have an adsl account with Tiscali and is used in our business. Our traffic never used to exceed 3 GB (average between 2 and 3 Gb) . For the past three months we have been exceeding the 3GB limit. This month we went over limit by the 7th of the month. I got an ADSL booster connection on the 10th. Today I see my total traffic has exceeded 8Gb. Is there any way that the guys as Tiscali can determine if the account has been hijacked . I would also like to know if other users of Tiscali / Mweb etc have had ny of these problems in recent months.

We had the same problem. Changing the ADSL account's password and virus checking all PC's solved the problem!

In our case the upload stats were more than the download - therefore the virus checking.

well why you are still with tiscali is a wonder
i dont know what the costs are for 3 gigs but for a little you can get 30 from axxess or allyoucaneat not much price difference, the only difference is personal preferance

do you firewall any outgoing traffic? deny anything on p2p ports, 135,139,445, 21 etc. if its just for mail/browsing, only allow that.

you'll be suprised at home much traffc it'll block.

The weird part is that I have a router with a firewall, each machine has Sygate firewall, Ewido anti trojan, AVG antivirus and Microsoft antispyware. Couldn't get more secure than this.

You should add "while still using windoze" to that statement - there are plenty of os's out there that are inherently more secure.

Close down all the ports you dont expressly need open for business otherwise no matter how much bandwidth you buy you'll probably still go over the limit.

Strange, I've also had this with Tiscali - this month. I'm apparently already on 2.5GB...max I've used is 1.5-1.8GB. No where near 2.5GB.

Something is fishy

easiest way to see if someones using your account is on your userstats, check your session time, normal is 82 000 seconds or something anything more than that (like double it) means your accounts being used somewhere else.

Here are the stats

Date - Online Time (Seconds)- Upload (Bytes)- Download (Bytes)- Combined
17-JUN-05 - 87560 - 11 098 214 - 50 673 626 - 61 771 840

Thats why changing the password should solve the problem!

One day = 86400 seconds

That was a big day.... watch for spyware man that can kill.........how many PC's on the network?

OMG you lot have tiscali out there too. Here in the uk tiscali are one of the isp's that cap heavily *alot dont cap at all* here though if you beat your cap they dont cut you off they just put you on a throttled part of there network thats so poor you get about 10k/s max sometimes its near 56k level. If your tiscali is anything like it is here stay away like its the plague!!!

don't forget to change your router's password as well.

You only use this account on one line? Then yr username/password has been stolen. More than 24 hours worth of usage on 3 consecutive days.
Change your password and make sure your router's pword is secure.

They're good, I'd just like to get a bigger cap. Cause Tiscali is expensive, and I don't really use the weather feature and the learning center.
