Hi Guys,

I am looking at boosting my sound experience, for games as well as music. All my movies get passed through via fiber outpur to my Sony amp so thats not an issue.

I am running Windows 7, so the EAX of Creative is rather useless. (if i understand correctly direct sound isnt what it used to be :S )

But here we go, I have the following at the moment,

Zalman 5.1 headphones running through a ASUS p5b Vista Deluxe onboard sound. Honestly in music it sounds sh*tty as there is no equalizer (yes I know vlc and media player have one, still doesnt sound great), in games the sound stage is not so great, sometimes you hear footsteps in front of you then get shot in the back.... this is hurting my bf2 poit system :D. I think my problems are due to an inferior sound card, as the headphones got good reviews I could be wrong however.

My 3 choices are as follow,

1. Buy the logitech G35, and use those for gaming and music. - But the whole USB thing worries me regarding sound quality and I believe it only has a 2 band equilizer so it may suck for music playback.

2. Buy the Asus Xonar D2X pci-express version, keep my current Zalman 5.1 and just run it through the sound card.

3. Listen to any suggestions you guys may have :)

At the end of the day I would like a card that can run fiber out to my amp, gives me great sound quality and positional awareness within games, then finally when I am hitting the MP3's (mainly rock, which does'nt seem to sound great on low end stuff.) and late night work I would like it to sound great and not give me earache and have to switch to my amp at low volumes.

What would are your opinions, I kinda like nr 2 as then i can always change out the headphones for something else, struggling to find a better 5.1 than the zalman.

Ps. If you suggest hardware please let me know who the suppliers of the hardware are, My company has accounts with all the major distributers, AXIZ, Pinnacle, etc. I want to order today so I can have it by this weekend :erm: :D

thanks guys and sorry for the long boring read :p

no-one, oh well ordered the asus xonar d2, no stock of the d2x, don't think there will be a noticable difference between the pci-express and pci version.

Did someone say something? :p

Sorry, couldn't have helped you Spazmatic. The sound gurus obviously haven't been online today.

whos talking to themselves :p.....

im sure someone will answer my question soon, and i just hope i spent money wisely :)

anyhow, the card arrived today,

Good card, worth the upgrade.

Sound quality went up by alot more than just a notch.

Even the SPDIF pass through sounds better than the onboard :)
