I hope you guys can help, as I have been having some problems with a certain motherboard and its warranty.

In March 2008 I bought a brand-new Jetway HA03 motherboard from Esquire. And all was good, until the Southbridge promptly went and died after 18-months. I took it back to Esquire, which replaced it with a BA-130 Jetway no problem.

Fast forward another 18-months to the beginning of this week, and the Southbridge failed yet again. I have never over-clocked any of my boards, and I only have two SATA HDDs plugged in.

When I took it in yesterday I was promptly told the motherboard was out of warranty. Turns out the new motherboard that I received to replace the faulty one only had 6 months warranty carried over from the old one.

To me this sounds wrong. But I could be wrong in expecting that my purchased products be covered by full warranty.

Does anyone have the full facts for me? It would be much appreciated.

All distributors and suppliers in this country and even the Overseas vendors of products have the same policies regarding warranty.
If an item is purchased that has one, two or even a three year warranty , the date of the warranty starts when an item was purchased.
if an item is replaced under warranty, the remaining warranty period applies to the new item.

You are most welcome to confirm this with all distributors in South Africa

Products such as Manhattan, Intelinet , Kingston etc that have a lifetime warranty are swopped-out regardless of when they were bought even after 10 years.

Your warranty will vary by vendor, but from the mainstream policy most vendors adopt, they have treated you fairly.

Your warranty is from the purchase date, to a future date. If the item gets replaced within that period it does not imply that your warranty gets "reset", it merely continues with the replacment product.

Agreed definitely standard practice and perfectly logical as well.

With the new Consumer Protection Act, if you've sent in the motherboard for replacement after April 2011, then you should've received 6 months warranty on that "new" item.
I'm actually not sure if the manufacturers/distributors would actually honour the CPA and what you can do about it if they don't.

Unfortunately for you, you swapped your motherboard way before the new CPA was instated.

Mahomed Cassim from Esquire contacted me directly and explained the situation to me.

And has gone further to make a very good offer on a replacement board.

I would also like to say that I never meant to accuse Esquire of anything, I simply wanted to
be fully informed as to how warranties are treated. Its never been an issue with me before, and
thanks to Mr Cassim, I don't think it will be.

Cool great that you're getting a good deal too :)

the norm is that the warrantee is valid from the sale date, so if it gets replaced after 18months & the replacement dies after another 18months = 36. If Warrantee is 24months then it's now 12months after the warrantee expired.
