Dropbox for Business is probably ideal, but at over 1K p/m for six users, it's a bit steep.

Can anyone advise on other viable options?

Thanks.

Don't need huge amounts of space, probably 50 gigs of storage total will do.
Some sort of utility that syncs to your PC as with Dropbox is ideal.

Have you thought of just buying a vps with lots of space and installing owncloud ?

Cheap VPS space: http://vpsdime.com/
OwnCloud: http://owncloud.org/

Basically if you set it up you can get as many users as you want and 500GB storage for like $7 a month (or 100GB for $40 a year). We run it at our office. Works well.

If you are wanting something with more impressive redudency you can get a VPS from digitalocean.com (will cost you around $40 a month). That vps is hosted in a cloud and they do full image backups of your data. So multiple layers of redundancy.

DigitalOcean actually has a really easy to follow guide here: https://www.digitalocean.com/commun...onfigure-owncloud-apps-on-an-ubuntu-12-04-vps

If you are a little nervous about the instructions, get one of your techie friends to install it. Pay him if you feel the need. Its going to be cheaper in the long run. If you cant find the skills, Ill do an install for about R400 :D It comes with apps for all the operating systems and even for smartphones.

What do you want to use it for?

Essentially, the functionality I need is the following:

Storage space of around 50 gigs (mostly various types of documents), the ability to access, edit and synchronise those docs across a couple of computers and have the ability to set access to folders on a per-user basis.

if it's for office use, then office 365 is probably best.

google drive i use for personal backup and cloud storage. you can share you documents across users, but don't really have a "central" type of storage.

another question. do you want all users to contribute to the same storage space?

Thanks for your suggestion - We piggy-backed it on where we host our company site, and so far it's working swimmingly. Brilliant!
