I borrowed the Windows XP cd from my work to install it on my home computer, as it got infected with a virus.

The problem is that now Windows tells me that I need to activate it within 2 days (started 30 days ago). I don't have an internet connection on my home pc and I see that there's a number I can call. What will they ask me and should I do it ? Isn't there another way to get round this ?

Please help!

One of the activation options is to do it by phone. select that - it will give you a toll-free number in SA, plus an Installation ID that you must key in to the phone computer. The system will then read back codes to you which you enter, and voila, activated. or call mssa.

It is real easy to do over phone especially if you have no or slow internet.
Automated call center.

Cool....glad its an automated number. I assume its open 24 hours ?

If they refer you to a operator - just tell them you replaced the motherboard.....and No its not installed elsewhere!
Only if that's true.
There's no point in corrupting your soul if you have a legit copy and a legit reason. I have never heard of a legit user ever being denied an activation, and there's always an escalation from the outsourced Indian call centre to MS itself.

Arthur, legit or not you can load xp on so many computers if you just phone microsoft.

Obviously you don't do every day, but 1 a week is easy to get activated.
