Hi,

I'm modding the side of my case, and need to borrow a dremel. I'm quite happy to buy and use my own bits, however, I cant afford to spend +- R800 to buy my own unit. I am also quite happy to use it in someones workshop (Who lends stuff to strangers in this day and age?)

Any help or suggestions is much appreciated.

Get the Ryobi ~ R250

I've had mine for 3 years and will not waste my money on a Dremmel. Very very handy tool.

EDIT: Check out Builders Warehouse - they even sell the Dremmel for R550

I have the Ryobi as well ,nothing wrong if your going to do one or two jobs a year.

I'm in toti if you are stuck for cash and want to complete the job..

Have bits etc

+1

But don't expect them to last for anything more then the casual odd job. I have been through two of the cheapies and tossed them after burning out so now resorted to a trusty Dremmel. Prices have come down nicely too, I paid a grand for mine

I can assist, but am in PMB after hours, if you are desperate.

I have a cordless one, and I found a Dremel in my fathers workshop yesterday but it is a Dremel engraver :(

I got me a dremel :D

Well folks...

I went to my nearest Mica yesterday, had the wife with me, and asked the dude for the Ryobi dremel. He made a helluva pitch about the Dremel being one and only, the knockoffs cant compare, etc... And the wife says ... "Get the dremel." And that was that. Havent used it yet, but its gonna be awesome :)

Thanks to all for the offers!

Cheers!

Good move, DW. Sometimes it's good to take the wifey along shopping.

:erm: except if you are shopping for computer bits, that is ;)

I'm looking into getting a Dremel Kit, I want 1 that comes with the accessories/extensions.. Preferably looking at an online purchase so I can pay with paypal...

I found the Dremel 4000 on ebay but not sure about the voltage as they use 110v .. Which models available locally & which do you suggest?? I'm looking @ spending upto around R1200 or upto $200 (usd) if its online (including shipping)..

I don't have Mica (closed down), Builders Warehouse, Dion, Makro in my Area... I tried Buildit & Game but no luck...

I got the dremel 4000, A very nice piece of kit. Had a lot of the knock-offs before, and they really cannot compare (especially on the balancing of the rotating assembly and build quality) Got it from builders warehouse at a very decent price.

Hmmm, Maybe I have the 400, don't remember right now. I bought it 3/4years ago for R1000 (with loads of bits and accessories)...

Seems to me that the quality is going down.

My dad bought one about 4 months ago, it is now full of problems (tap it to get it to start, not as powerfull as it was etc) he has tried new brushes as well, no difference, taking it back for a swap-out.
