Need to recover app password

Upgrading to new phone (Android, with Google account), but... forgot my Google password! The password was newly updated less than two weeks ago, along with a bunch of other passwords and for the life of me I can't remember it (well, only part of it).

Password recovery failed, I realised afterwards probably because I tried recovery while we were on the road (and guessing because I guessed the creation date wrong... who remembers that?!) For creation date I looked up POP forwarding details on my phone's browser, where I'm still logged in (old password).

I have 2step verification activated. No security questions get asked (only push/text messages to confirm codes). I have no recovery email activated anymore, used to be a work address but don't have that address anymore and I removed it without replacing it with a new one - stupid!

Apart from recovery process I also attempted: searched in Chrome (on my phone) to hopefully find the password in the browser history, but realised (and saw) it won't be there as I always use Incognito mode in Chrome from my home PC.

The old phone is still logged in to Gmail app (new password) and Gmail browser (I suspect the previous password, which I remember). It will have major repercussions if I create a new Google account now! Years of backups, photos, documents, email history... all now depends on the old phone keeping itself together (its antenna is failing and it easily restarts by itself).

I am convinced that this information can be manipulated to either get my password back, or change it?

No that will not work. Google security is tight.

I have not had to do it myself so I can't tell you were to find it, but I have read in other threads regarding the same problem, that there is a link to a form to ask for help from Google. They will contact you and verify you are the account "owner" and then reset your password.

Hopefully someone comes around soon with specific directions, or you could just Google for more info on that.

I have spend the entire day Googling! They take 3-5 days to get back to you, and after the "Google could not verify you are the account holder" you can try again, and wait another 3-5 days... I've received my new phone 4 days ago and still no luck.
There is a form I filled out but it asks for a Twitter or forum link and I'm unsure what forum link that should be and its not as if you can phone them and ask!
I'm considering installing dodgy spy apps on my phone to hack my own password!

It should work, but it doesn't! I'm beyond frustrated. I get the push notifications on my phone, sms with code, provide the code, get an email to alternative address and also provide that code, still the result stays the same "Google could not verify that the account belongs to you"

Your password probably isn't stored on the device, as it most likely uses temporary authentication tokens that will stop working after some period of time, so dodgy spy apps won't be of any use.

Have you tried attempting the recovery from the old phone that is connected? Using a recognised device might be enough to let you through...

Yes I have been using my old phone, as well as my home PC. I did escalate and their answer was that I should use the recovery options. It is an endless loopof frustration.
