Hi there.

I desperately need your help. I have password protected an Excel 2010 file in 2012. I need some information in that file now but cannot remember the PW. Can you please advise on how to get into that file. I have tried all possible passwords I could have used but without any success. I have ran free online software to recover it but without any success. I have also watched a video where I had to change the extension of the file to ZIP, open it in zip and change some text in a file. If I change the extension to zip and try to open it it tells me the file is corrupt.

I will really appreciate it if someone can help me to unprotect the file.

Thank you so long.

Of course the file does need to be yours... but I found if you really do want it - look for the best review paid for software on the internet - just search for "best rated paid excel password recovery' or something like that - be careful of the "free" ones - they usually include some malware..

The software should cost around $30 or so..

Thank you. I will check it out and give some feedback.

You will need to use one of those brute forcers - depending on the length of your password it might take a few days to a few years.

This is why I have all my passwords on a bitlocked USB drive with a password protected .rar archive which contains a protected excel document.

Eish, if your password's long and alphanumeric, it's game over.

Do you have a plan B in the event you lost your USB drive/your drive got irreparably damaged?

It's a difficult challenge - xlsx files. There's no tricks. Just password searching.

If you know something anything about the password structure, it's better to carry out a mask attack specifying possible values for each position. If you know of what words the password can consist, then it will be better to carry out a dictionary attack with mutations. Our software can do either things.

Write me a personal message if you have any ideas about the password.

Is there a simple-ish way to protect passwords? I have about 30. Can never remember them.

What's keepass like?
