i've researched this so much that i'm totally confused. does freezone come with WA home connect 10gig? i've encouraged friends to sign up telling them they can play on steam for free and they can download between midnight and 6 in the morning for free - now it seems i'm wrong. WA support suggest they go uncapped for an extra R80p.m. or add download plus? their usage is mainly gaming but BF3 has a humungous patch that'll contribute to their cap. they're also playing MW2 and MW3. thanks guys and sorry to nag on boxing day.

All WA products come with freezone afaik. You're probably confusing FreeZone and DownloadPlus. The later you need to specifically buy, except for some packages which have it added anyway (uncapped).

For steam, you need any type of international WA that still has cap left. The one you've got will work fine. Then you go to the WA forum & find the thread that has the info on forcing steam to use the WA steam servers...this step you need to get right else its deducted from your cap. If you don't come right pm me or post here & hope I or someone else willing to help sees it.

Freezone = specific things only, any time of day
DownloadPlus = Anything, but only during specific times

that's so cool HavocXphere tks for saving my bacon. i wondered where i got the idea that gaming on steam is free!

you can download from steam for free. You just need something like steamwatch which works pretty well. That means you can download so much steam content. I downloaded 15Gb from steam and it was all free with webafrica's steam server which is in the freezone.

ftp.wage.co.za is in the freezone to as well as all webafrica gaming servers which includes battlefield 3 which can actually eat some bandwidth if you play a lot.

Glad you're happy about it.

What I said above relates to steam content servers...the WA gaming servers are also freezone. MW uses a peer to peer system afaik...so the cap might still get hit a bit with that.

I prefer the Comodo route, but it doesn't really matter. Just be warned that forcing it like that sometimes make steam act weirdly. e.g. Takes long to log in. Click on download & nothing happens etc. So expect some hassles. It does definitely work though...pretty much all of the 100gigs of steam content on my pc didn't count towards the cap.

yes i saw that ftp site. if they download the BF3 patches/updates via ftp will the game work if they log onto steam to play afterwards? thinking of downloading free but not playing on freezone - it seems a bit temperamental.

after looking at the webafrica forum pages they use steamwatch and frey. which do you think is easier?
