I have been convinced by guildies to roll a warrior instead of a warrior due to the extreme need for tanks on our server. For some reason there is more healers currently than even dps...

Anyway, I rolled a TROLL warrior named Eish. The reason I chose the name Eish is I can allready imagine all those pugs where the tank gets the blame when things go wrong. So they will say stuff like Eish... And I will reply "Met eish ja, met eish!".

What I need from all the pro tanks is just a bit of advice on how to go about gaining experience, specs and ofc leveling and tanking tip.s

Well basically for leveling you want to maximise your dps, that means choosing only the skills that directly increase your attack speed, crit chance, hit rating etc. The most obvious choice is fury, you will get mindboggling amounts of crits if you do it right. Later on at about 55 onwards, consider branching off into the first 3 tiers of arms for extra bonuses.

Here's my leveling build

Ignore instances (until outland, with the exception of WC and SM to get you going at the beginning)
Ignore pvp (until 65-66)
Ignore really annoying long stupid quests, you know what im talking about....

Get Questhelper from http://downloads.curse.com/ You will never look back :)

Sunder Sunder Sunder Sunder.

Nuff said :D

To tank first make sure you have a very stable connection! Not to high pings as all your tank abilities are instant casts that would require fast reflexes if you want to be ontop of your game. (Sub 400 ms should work nicely)

For leveling, Arms spec or Fury is the best way to go, can do that up to 60 or even further before you go full protection. Sub 60 fury or arms can tank just as well as any other tank, given that you have the right gear. I pressume this aint your first char and that you have some gold ready to boost this pet project? As warrior you are best advised to keep up with gear as you level up, and keep them enchanted with the best you can afford. With that in mind you will be able to cut through anything all the way up to 60. Keep first aid maxed and take up cooking.

There are many good tank guides out there, and I am sure you have found them already, so wont go into that.

Eish, good luck Eish!

Good advice from seanH.

I'm no uber tank (yet), only hit 70 a while a go and I'm only in blues, but here is my 2c:

Go Fury while levelling, and don't be put of by anybody saying you need to be prot to tank while levelling. I was fury 1-70 (17/44) and tanked loads of OL instances. Obviously not as easy as when you're prot, but with everybody keeping an eye on threat it should be fine. On the tougher pulls I'd ask the dps to wait for 3 sunders or whatever, then they can go mad.

Once you hit 70 look at this:

http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t18771-protection_warrior_guide/

Fantastic guide if you're serious about understanding your class mechanic and whatnot... should be your bible

Also have a look at the sticky in the warrior section of the official US wow forums on gearing for Kara etc. Great guide to gear you for raiding.

Wowwiki articles on warrior builds etc may also be worthwhile reading...

and lastly... enjoy! I <3 my warrior.

Hope that helps.

Edited to add: What Werries say is 100% true. We are heavily gear dependant... I wont spend huge amounts twinking you out every couple of levels, but doing instances and keeping an eye on AH for bargains goes a long way to keep you geared nicely

Reroll bare imo. Unless your guild has no MT at all (you only really need 2 prot warriors for endgame raiding).
Itemised correctly they match warriors for almost anything. We've got bares in our guild that have tanked everything from Karazahn and ZA to SSC and TK bosses.
That and the mix of tanking, dps, stealth and selfhealing makes them an utter breeze to level.

I've also noticed paladin tanks to be absolutely amazing at our level. They have a very niche role (tanking loads of adds) which becomes increasingly important as you delve deeper into raiding.

If warrior is imperative, however, then yeah, you're going to be in for a slightly rougher time levelling. Fury dual-wielding is the best way to go and you can tank instances fine as fury until you ding 70, the main thing is to have a decent sword and board when you do. Grind quests rather than mobs, pick your fights careully (positioning yourself so you dont pull extra mobs is important, as a warrior levelling you don't have things like vanish, feign death, a pet to tank for you, cc, AoE or selfheals) - you only ever want to be fighting 1 mob at a time. You'll use first aid and food a lot so be sure you have enough on you - being stranded out in the wilderness without any will prove frustrating. Be prepared for downtime if you don't keep your gear up to scratch while levelling. Best tep for gear is to make sure your weapons are always the best you can get at the time. Even greens are ok, as long as you dont use the same weapon for more than 4 levels. Warriors are very dependant on their weapons - keep them up to date.

I am confused by this part

I think he meant priest. I thought i was the only person who noticed that

Sorry, meant to say paladin. Thanks for all the good advice. In general I upgrade my gear on all alts I level every 2 levels to the best available gear that I can get from AH. I will only run instances for gear if it will be a massive upgrade, though in general I find the gear only slightly better than the stuff I can get from AH.

Morning all

Ok logged on to my Warrior last night for a first time in ages, lvl 62 and moved to Zang - Marsh something or another.

I spec'd Protection with the hope of tanking my way to lvl 70. That didn't work out as it's a pain to get a group for instances. Anyway. I need to spec for solo quest grinding now......

Easy what build ? Pure fury or is there a multi spec that would give me huge damage and quick kills ?

Looking for the build with the least amount of down time :o
