So i'm considering it ... given that I am on iBurst now (5gig package). But i'm concerned with all the negativity surrounding Neotel within our forumns :(

I pay R599 for 5gig @ iBurst, but can get 10gig for R699 from Neotel, out of bundle @8c/mb = R80/gig is a bit steep. But the 64kbs cap on iBurst sux

eish... do I or dont I

Honestly, i think hang on for 2-3 months and see if neotel improves anything. They say theyre doubling coverage within the next 3-6 months so you should start to see improvements soon. Its not worth it to change right now.64kB/s is better than 4kB/s

Don't look at the advertised price, as the constantly charge you for more than you use. I was on the 10Gig Neoflex, and I often payed R1000+ per month.

I wouldn't recommend signing and 24 month contracts at this time....

rather hang in there a while longer!

Without a bandwidth monitor and the service outages that weve been experiencing lately I would say NO.
Neotel have said they will be bringing out a email notification for bandwidth sometime in the future.
If that happens and they fix the network congestion problems i would say only then look into getting a neotel account.

Go with screamer telecoms then. They offer month to month contracts. I believe theyre quite good from the posts ive seen.

I would recommend Neotel if I knew with 100% certainty that they weren't moving their towers and subsequently impacting their coverage. My signal strength dropped from 4 bars to 1 bar and speeds have dropped by half.

So that would be a resounding NO.

B.

With the coverage map situation ? No ways.
If you can get DSL, I'd still get in bed with Telkom before Neotel, for now anyway.

I'm hoping recent activity is a sign of improvement. My connection has been bad all week, don't even bother calling the support line.

Will see what this weekend holds. I go through bouts of loving it to complete frustration.

So for now, NO.

I've had nothing but trouble from the new kind on the block; calling the so called Customer Support line endlessly for over three months only to be given the usual "we will create a trouble-ticket" to "we will escalate your problem" only to receive nothing but the same slow speeds and constant "disconnects" (the Neoflex device stays connected but no upload or download activity).

However, that all changed three weeks ago when Neotel at last sorted these issues out (well for most users it seems). I can happily say that I am really impressed with the connection, it's fast and stable. On average my download speeds range from .7m/s in peak time to around 2.2m/s in off peak times. Upload speeds are decent at .55m/s while pinging JHB from CT is around the 170ms mark.

I'm still not sure I would recommend NeoFlex or NeoPrime to anyone though as it's still early days, however I think business users who need a stable connection should steer away from these services for now until Neotel can prove themselves.

Anyone know whats the word on evdo rev. b and if neotel is going to implement it? As far as im aware its quite an easy jump for providers to upgrade their towers to support rev. b?

I got to weigh up which is the lesser of two evils though. My current iBurst reception at my new house is useless, I'm in their coverage area, but being in KZN with all its hills and valleys, I happen to be in a valley. So I get an erratic 30%-40% signal, giving me a maximim burst of about 33kbs, and an average of about 13-18kbs. And that is with an optimally placed antenna on my roof at its highest point.

Now Neotel's map shows me in a much better coverage area, and even if I only get 40% signal again, its still gonna be better than iBurst. But if they move the towers signal, then %$$##$%. Plus its more cap than iBurst!!

Question is - how well do p2p & torrents graft on their network??
