I need some advice as it seems it will be impossible to test this.
For my use Latency is more important than bandwidth. I am considdering moving to Neotel as the Telkom lines in my area are having serious issues and adversely affecting both latency and speed.
When i checked the neotel coverage, i have Excelent cover in my area, but i need to test the latency before i would be willing to commit to a 2 year contract. currently with copper and unshaped acount the expected latency to the international servers i connect to are arround 300 to 400 ms. local latency is arround 60 to 120 ms.
But i seem to have hit a brick wall with Neotel as far as trying to purchase their product.
I can request for an technician to come test my signal strengh (according to the Autopage rep there is only 1 technician in the pretoria area) the technician will only come out if the signal strength in my area indicates anything less than excellent, if the signal strength is excellent but i am not pleased with the latency and therefore decide not to take the product, they will charge me another R250.
is there anyone that is currently using their product that can give me some info about how the latency compares to copper? or can give me some advice of how to test this service before commiting to contract.
PS to Neotel:
IF you had a product that alllows a prepaid option or pay as you go option, you will find MANY clients like myself that is unsure, willing to give your product a tryout, as it wont involve a 2 year contract.. if your product is as good as is advertised, it will prove itself in the comunity. You are driving off many prospective clients with this 2 year contract.
And if you then insist on contract based sales, you need the facility to allow people to test your product before commiting.
