Neotel Download Speeds

I'm one of those frequent browsers you always see announcing themselves :P

I just wanted to know about others experience with download speeds on the net with the NeoConnect Prime package.

Some sites I get download speeds of 16kb to 26kb a sec...then others I get 56kb sec and then i get over 100 on others...any idea why this is?

signal? or the line speed that the server the sites are hosted on?

Do you use streaming audio/radio. Can you get steady, decent speeds using them?
 
I've checked the signal map on Neotel's website and my area is in "Very Good" signal range. I initially thought it was the servers I download from but I had a telkom adsl line at my previous residence and the download speeds were always a constant 56kb per sec on the same sites.

I tried watching a couple of youtube videos. Initially it videos would play without needing to buffer constantly (first 2 or 3 days) and now I have to sit and wait for it to buffer numerous times.
 
My speeds are also down the last few days. Nothing over 100kb/s with 4 bars. At home with 2 bars it is so slow I dont even bother.. I have sent them 2 emails in the last 2 weeks with no reply. I really hope this isnt signs of things to come!!!
 
I think I need to get hold of them and find out what's happening. I have full signal at home and web pages are loading like they do on a dial up connection. It's HORRIBLE!
 
Download speed is back up to 120kb/s. Hope this post helped my cause. Or maybe the email I sent them.

Do me a favour and download an HTTP file but using multiple connections at some stage and then we can see how fast Neotel can really be. 1000 kb/s is iBurst
speed. :)
 
Well like I explained before I'm in a area not officially covered, and I'm only getting 2 sometimes 3 bars reception. So I'm quite happy with my speeds. Will wait for full reception before doing comparative testing.

On a single download from Microsoft this evening (XP SP3) I managed a steady 128kB/s. When using 9 simultaneous connections from Giganews, I'm currently between 120 and 178kB/s (that's about 1424kb/s). Average speeds on Neotel have dropped lately, but they're still above 900 kbps any time of the day (for me anyway).

Edit: Of course, the moment I posted this, my downloads dropped to about 80kB/s and show no sign of recovery :)

I had a call from them last night regarding the mail I sent them about the slow speeds.
Apparently they are doing base station upgrades and the speed will vary for the next couple of days.
 
I find it a bit frustrating that they are upgrading their existing base stations in stead of expanding and building new ones.
 
While i am happy they are doing upgrades...

I find it extremely frustrating that they don't give us a heads up. They obviously know what base station they will be working on and which users it will effect. Why not just send out an sms telling us to expect slow speeds instead of forcing the user to phone the call centre and bog them down with useless fault reports?

Then again maybe i am just being stupid.
