Neotel FAQ - Networks / Rollout

Wireless for Home, and Mobile is the way to go.

FIOS should be for CBD businesses and roads where the cables are already lead up to base stations only.

Enjoy your wireless. When you are complaining in a few years time that all the base stations are packed with users and speeds are pathetic. Then you will be telling us about LTE 3 or whatever that promises terabit speeds.

I want copper to my house with shorter distances between the exchange and my house. Eventually I want fibre. Neotel and the guys can do it especially if you are in an area dense with flats or complexes they would be able to get back their capex after a few years and then they would be in an excellent position cause they would be able to offer all sorts of extra services over those sweet, sweet lines. I am not settling for second best just cause I live in South Africa.

WiMax is not so bad in the States, $50, and you get unlimited mobile internet for your laptop on the go, and above that also for your home, you can use the two simultaneously.

other unlimited is $25
3.5Mbps Download 2Mbps up

Hmm. 3.5 mb/s? So this is the technology that was supposed to deliver 70 mb/s at 70 km/h (there is a thread somewhere where everyone is fighting about this)? I have read reviews where the guys have moaned that signal makes a huge difference.

Give me ADSL2 at 20 mb/s...

It was a more long term view, meaning that they rather invest in setting up base stations now, than forever placing FIOS to connect a few.

LTE & the next wireless standards in the next few years, will all be over 100mbps, HSPA+ coming next year having a max of 88Mbps (12 simultaneous HD streams). The next standard of CDMA, after Rev B (also next year - 9 Mbps) will allow speeds of up to 326Mbps(50 HD channels per home). that already, and even with SEACOM would run up in a few seconds with the Caps we have.

HAH yeah right. As if you will see speeds like 100Mbps soon. Wimax was supposed to be a lot faster than 4mb, and I don't know about you, but I was never offered the true potential of Wimax. We already have the technology to get close to 100mb, the reason we don't isn't a limitation coming from the technology, rather a limitation from our limited international connectivity (come on new cables!) and the players in our market (bugger off Icasa). They already have 1Gb fibre connections to your home in Japan, we are WAY behind.

Whatever service we are offered, on whatever technology is available, the speed will be controlled as will the data caps (although hopefully this will improve), incidentally this is one of the many things that South Africa has given to the world...the concept of the data cap...yay us!

Whatever you do, DONT JOIN Neotel!

I am a Neotel Client and received exceptional service when we wanted to join, but now that we have the device, its slower than a snails pace, if you upgrade they charge you extra R900 and not one technician or consultant could answer a technical question for 3 days! Just look up all the complaints on your search engine for Neotel and you will see how many unhappy clients there are! Trust me - do not join!!!! If I can spare one poor soul the incredible frustration I am going through then atleast I have achieved something good with this piece of junk service I was lied to about by the "very, friendly Neotel operator"

Spent the day at the mybroadband offices testing Neotel. Not even a hint of a dropped connection, or slow through-put. I will be changing to them when there is coverage in the Ballito area.

I just wish Neotel will hurry up and get things going here in Polokwane......

they finally made it to my area, but then i realised they can't be trusted. (see the thread on them over-billing). :/

Number portability is on the cards however; it is not available currently.

Significant work needs to be done by all parties concerned including ICASA.

NUmber portability can be applied to the current Neotel Consumer service.

Maps are updated as and when new sites are on air.

Hi neotel rep could you possibly explain the billing issue surrounding neotel

10 days and counting...No response from Neotel...

Why are we treated like this? Oh yes, I forgot, when corrupt "public servants" think they're "untouchable, infallible kings", why should companies care for the people they blatantly make false promises to...

Now I actually feel good about Telkom slapping that massive Telkom billboard up, right in front of Neotel headoffice...

Telkom must be cackling themselves silly at Neotel's incompetence... Whilst all SA cries...

Listen bro, he did explain it on other posts. He obviously didnt reply because you didnt take the time to read all of it. He has thousands of PMs to answer. Cut the guy some slack, will you?

Mmm, I guess I am just being unreasonable, but then, I am also tired of being ripped off by Telkom, with Neotel turning out to be nowhere near the "saviour" they made themselves out to be...

I had to sign another 2 year contract with Telkom, thanks to Neotel not being able to roll out as fast as they claimed they would.

I will have a massive stroke and heart attack soon, if I have to keep hearing how my friends in other countries have next to nothing to pay for ultra cheap, 16megs up and down speeds, yet, we still operate with "tin cans and string" at astronomical prices...

Hope has a bitter taste...
