Neotel is digging up my driveway!!!

I live in Melkbosstrand, just around the corner from the SAT3/SAFE landing station, and today Neotel is digging up my driveway! :eek:

A week or so ago I got a letter in my box which read 'Due to the demand for a second telephone operator, we will be excavating in your area. We apologise for the inconvenience during the execution of work.'

That is all very well and fine, but they didn't say they were going to dig up my driveway, not even so much as a 'by your leave'.

As much as I wish them all the luck in the world, this whole thing was very poorly handled, and has left a very bad taste in my mouth :sick:

If the driveway isn't put back exactly the way it was there are going to be some serious issues :mad:
 
Tell them you will take them to court unless they route a piece of fibre into your living room.
 
Put it this way, you've got them by the balls or shall I say fibre...
 
Along the curb; and I understand they have the right to do that, the point is that I can't drive out my house at the moment because there is a bloody great trench across the driveway.

What would have been nice, and a simple courtesy, would have been to have a letter, a visit from someone, or even just a knock on the door when they started, to say, 'we will be digging up your drive-way between this and that time on this or that date; we will be cleaning up after ourselves and have an excellent contractor who will leave your drive-way in the same pristine fashion we found it in'.

No such luck...

And the bloke next door has just landscaped the whole area between his house and the street at considerable expense, and a fair portion of that is now being quietly destroyed.

I have taken photographs and spoken to the rate-payers association. When they finally get a foreman on site I am going to bend his ear quite dramatically also.
 
Some responses I would like to hear said:

1. At least you have a driveway
2. At least you have a house
3. Who the hell "landscapes" the area between his house and the road? At a considerable expense no less.
4. It's for the greater good
5. You think the 1 million Chinese displaced by the 3 Gorges damn was individually approached by the foreman.
6. Aarrgh - I challnge you to a duel.
7. Here, have a smoke of this - it'll calm you down.
8. God gave you legs - jump
 
Thanks brevity for your brief retort, it certainly puts everything into perspective and is very much appreciated.

imagine 24mpbs internet uncapped for 400 bucks a month

your driveway was worth it then im sure :), i would live with a dugg up drive way for that type of speed and price

although this is south africa, they will dig up your drive charge more than telkom and never repair your drive way

such is this country

Those are the things that wet-dreams are made of. Luckily for us, good old Ivy is a great cure for anything close to an ejaculation, let alone a premature one :sick:
 
How wide is this trench?
 
I willing to sacrifice your driveway for some fiber any day. My own driveway on the other hand... I'm a selfish bastard - I know.

Just make sure that you know whom the tune when the driveway does not get fixed again. I'm guessing when the fiber is done then everyone will do a disappearing trick.
 
So where does the trench line go to? from where to where?
Does it actually go to where the SAT3 lands?
Spy photos would be good. thx
