Neotel lite in dowerglen JHB

hi guys!

Ok i have a few questions that maybe u guys can answer for me please!

I recently phoned neotel and they told me about there Neotel lite uncapped package for R469 a month .... I live in Dowerglen in JHB and Neotel have recently been putting up lines and stations on linksfield road ... im about 1 km away from the lines and was wondering if the Lite package is worth going for and wat speeds can i achieve?

Im with another service provider now on adsl 4mb line with 5 gig cap and im paying around that much for internet .... another thing im worried about is if the weather affects the neotel wireless ?

if any1 can help me i would really appreciate it thx
 
Be warned that dropping from your 4mb line to the neotel lite is like going from a ferrari to an uno. You can expect max speeds of about 18-20KB with neotel lite, but i am not sure about the averages from personal experience as i am using the prime.

You may want to consider waiting as the REV A devices and some new packages are supposed to be coming out pretty soon (according to one of the tech guys; in October).
 
Agreed with rtzouves -- mythos4sl Rather wait a month or so, I would hate for you to get signed up and then a week later the Rev A series is open to the public.

I have the Lite Package and average around 19/20KB/s download.. sometimes it peaks briefly to the 30's and 40's but not sure if that is an error with Bandwidth Monitor Pro. Torrents run like a dream at the same average speeds since I called in an requested 1 incoming port to be opened. I have also tested the Prime device and was getting average speeds of 400-500 KB/s on 1/2 bar signal strength. The Prime device way out performs the Lite device even with minimal signal strength and clarity. Just imagine what the Rev Series will be like *yum yum*

I tried to get minimum signal on the Prime device and Maximum Signal on the Lite device at the time of my testing. Unfortunately when the technician was leaving he noticed I had swopped the Lite device for the Prime device and asked for his Prime device back.

Had very cloudy days and few rain storms and have not noticed in any change in signal clarity.. but DSTV always seems to go on the bling :/

so this REV A series will be good choice then! does any1 know how much the uncapped would be on this series? Thx for all ur help guys i really appreciate it! u have made my choice very simple so i thank u for that

The package prices/structures have not been publicly released yet and that is assuming there will be new packages SPECIFICALLY for the Rev A devices.

I spoke to the call centre today and they did confirm i was correct in Rev A devices being released this October, but unfortunately they are still waiting on stock of the devices. Told me to give them a call next week some time and they should have arrived by then. They were unfortunately not able to give me any other info with regards to pricing or even if there were going to be new packages.

Try giving them a buzz next week ;)

I plan to call them daily until the new device is on my desk and i am seeing it in action. lol :)
 
ok cool that sounds great ... sorry im being such an idiot but wat kind of speeds can i espect from this REV A?
 
nobody knows what we can all expect. The Rev A device has a max theoretical speed down of 3.1Mbps but then again the current devices are supposed to have a max of 2.4Mbps and i don't get anywhere near that. My advice would be to give them a call and ask if you can test the device or have a tech guy come out and demo it for you.

thx alot I really appreciate it ... I guess I'll be giving neotel a call next week to find out from them if they are fully operational in my area and if rev a is up and going ... Thx again been a big help :)

I think 2.4Mbps is actually a peak value...you only get that sort of speed for very short bursts at a time. Way too short for you to actually even realise your connection is reaching those speeds. They have an average in the 1.5Mbps range, so that is the sort of speed you should expect (although I read on these forums that thanks to the upgrading of towers people don't even get close to that right now).
