Hi Guys
I wanted to start a thread dealing with 2 issues regarding the NEOTEL phone itself - both the physical and functional sides.
1. The size and non portability of it - does anyone know if the firmware is upgradable - or if there is any other hardware device we can use instead of this phone? It looks like something out of the 80s! I love the fact I can go from Durban to Pinetown and use it (Im on the R 999 unlimited - so far so good !) - but the phone just cant be "packed away" easily - my aerial has already (almost) broken - which sent the signal down to 1 or 2 bars - previously 4 bars. - why cant we just have a small cel phone type gadget?
2. For those of you trying to get Skype or ANY other voip package working - it wont work properly. They obviously want you to use THEIR phone - and hence the way I see it have seriously strangled the upload speeds - max you can get is around 64k whilst you blaze down at 1.0 mbs - does that seem strange or what? This is business chaps. You will hear your mate perfectly - but your voice just cant go down the pipe...dont even try video!
So right now - has anyone built an external antennae? pls post pics? or know of any other hardware that works ?
3. When are the OS X drivers being made ava?
4. The unlimited access works well BUT you need to restart the connection to get "back up to speed" ... i find the speed drops down after long use. I also cant seem to get Vista to redial and keep trying....so manually i go on.
5. The phone has started getting a "black lcd screen" - which is only solved by unplugging the battery and all cables...it has started doing this more often lately. It is non functional during this activity.
Ok above put aside - it is still the best internet offer in RSA atm - I dont really care about the phone itself ... just hope they stick to the level of service and dont introduce limits...nice one NEOTEL
