Nero Problem

So when I use Nero (7) and close it, it doesn't actually close ...... my PC started lagging for no apparent reason yesterday and when I checked to see what processes were running, I discovered 13 Nero processes running (all chowing about 35mb each) ...... no wonder the poor PC was lagging. Anyway, what to do to ensure it actually closes? Do I remove it and reinstall or what?

When I installed Nero 7, it auto patched it for Vista and then unintalled the program... and now i have no more Nero 7... WTF?

you could give InfraRecorder a try. it is only 2.6 MB and is very similar to Nero.

nero used to be a great recording application but has become very bloated.

Click run type msconfig click the startup tab, untick any nero things you see in there and apply.

Go to the Smart Start menu > configure, then untick "Return to smartstart menu after application is closed"

Reinstall Nero 7. Make sure you have the latest version of 7. As killadoob said, use msconfig and remove and nero-ish names you find there from startup.

It's a pity really, as Nero still is great for burning disks. I just find that it got too bloated, and they started focussing on strange things like photo editing and backing up and so on. I can understand the idea is to make the product stand out, but unfortunately it becomes like another Norton. Bloated, slow, and loses focus of what it's core goal is.

Nero has become a truly horrid application, version 8 is ridiculous and even 7 is bad when it comes to the crap it installs even if you select only Nero Burning Rom, you still have to run around deleting files if you don't want extra crap running the whole time.

Sorry Mephisto never seen that problem but maybe Nero isn't closing properly so each time you open a new one things just get worse.

CDBurnerXP is a great little burning application, only down side is it requires the .NET Framework to be installed but chances are you already have that.

Ok so I followed this route and it fixed the problem ..... only problem now is that whenever I restart the machine, I get a System Configuration Utility (or some such) box that pops up and tells me I have started in some Selective Startup Mode, tells me to select Normal Mode and if I don't, it says 'changes have been made and the system needs to restart, blah blah ......... how do I stop this irritation?
