Looking for a decent free or pay forum solution which I can use in .NET.

Can also use DotNetNuke with the forum plugin. Prefer YAF though.

DotNetNuke is a pita and a memory whore, use yaf, of umbraco, with a forum plugin

Cool. Think going to play around with YAF for now. Other thing I was looking for is forum or social solution for SharePoint. Can't find anything on that regards that is really cool, so might have to go with hybrid solution. Like using YAF and writing a webpart that can display directly into share point a certain forum...

I second the Umbraco + Forum plugin approach. Umbraco 5 is based on MVC, so you'll find it easier integrating the custom views into SharePoint (imho, of course).

I'll have a look. For now just playing around hooking of a Visual Webpart to another data source and showing some basic results
