Hi guys,

I am looking to purchase a device for myself.. :)

can any1 please give me advice on which to go for???

I need something to allow me access to internet, but mostly it'l be used for playing movies....

I had a HP Pavillion Media edition, but was stolen 2weeks back...

Netbooks don't have a built-in DVD drive.
No dedicated graphics
Usually only XP with minimal RAM. I suppost its mostly for email and MS Office.

Rather get a notebook.

The new Intel GMA netbooks can handle 1080p decode in MPEG2 and H.264 in hardware - not on the CPU. The upcoming Ion based netbooks have NVidia H.264 1080p hardware acceleration too.

GMA 500 has been out for about 6-9 months internationally, the Ion based ones are still to appear but are expected to be 50-100 USD more. They Ion will also chow more power but it's always better to watch movies on mains anyway or via an airline seat power plug. Saying this, new Atom 1.86 GHz and 2.0 GHz CPUs with HT and upcoming dual core 1.86 and 2.0 GHz Atoms will add to H.264 playback abilities. An optimised H.264 codec - the best being CoreAVC is also a boost for netbooks without proper GMA/Nvidia drivers.

PowerDVD 8 and 9 have Intel GMA 500 720p/1080p Hardware decoding support. CoreAVC also employs the NVidia CUDA H/W acceleration, I don't think Ion has that though.

Thanks that sounds great.
