Hi guys ,could someone please recommend me a netbook, I will be using it at university, to type in the class ,and when not in class to listen to music or watch a movie. It will be used as a secondary computer as I already own a desktop pc. Price range of R5000 and less (Intel Atom preferably)
Thanks in advance.

The acer aspire one?

Do you guys have one, if so whats it like to use?
*Edit* It costs R5999.95 at Incredible.

I've got an MSI Wind and it's pretty cool. I use it mainly for music and email and it's quite comfortable to type on (using it right now actually).

It may be a bit out of your budget (I got it when it was <R5k) but imo it's one of the best netbooks price/performance wise.

Hope you come right.

I was looking at a Samsung NC10 online ,but could anyone find one in SA?

At Incredible today they had the Compaq Mini 700 which is an HP Mini 1000 clone. It's a very, very nice looking machine but that said you can get an Acer Aspire One with an 8 gig SSD for only R2999. Trade in an old machine this week and it comes down by R500 and costs R2499 then. Both the Acer and the Compaq/HP have amazing keyboards that are better than any other Netbook.

Yup ... Acer one has models here ... 2999 (Linux), 5999 (XP) and 7,999 (XP with embedded 3G)

As mentioned, trade in a PC and get R500 discount on each price listed above.

Samsung NC10 looks nice and I had tried one myself. And I have the Lenovo S10, also a very nice Netbook which you can get in SA and quite competitively priced.

I'm being serious now, it might sound like a dumb question, but whats the advantage to a netbook for R5000 if you can get a proper notebook for the same price?

Go google yourself, this had been discussed over and over and over and over.........;)

Acer Aspire One A10
MSI wind (buy an extre 6cell battery)
Asus EEE 900a (keep away from 7" and celeron models)
Asus EEE 1000H

Specs to check for:
1.6Intel Atom Processor
6 Cell battery
8.9" or bigger screen
1024x600 or higher resolution
Make sure you can get 1gb ram in it (to support future XP use)

Ubuntu have a eee pc edition which sounds better.

edit:
P.S. Also look for embedded 3g, always nice to have, and don't forget about the apple Macbooks (expensive, but small)
Also look at 13" screen laptops

Cyber Orange in Bedford Centre have the MSI Wind U100 for R5000, but if you can afford it go for the Samsung NC10 - extra 600 bucks. Most reviewers rate it higher than the Wind series - but if you want embedded 3G, look at the Wind U120h. At R7000 it ain’t cheap (dealers are making a killing on netbook mark-ups) but it’s a better deal than IC’s 8-grand Aspire One.
They have an online store, just google it.

If somebody knows where to buy a SAMSUNG NC10 in Johannesburg. please let me know. I checked with Cyber Orange. they don't have it even though it's on their website

The newest DionWired brochure has it listed, but it also says "Available in-store after 25 February". Maybe just wait a few days
