NetDynamix defends itself on the online radio debacle

So, to summarise, NetDynamix measure hits from any source & uses that as listener statistics, as opposed to actual active audio streams? :wtf:

Interesting. The flash viewer redirects to www.ustream.tv
I can't access it (damned bluecoat) so I don't know what that is.

Yeah, quite a fail on their part. I suspected that it would be something along those lines.

Yeah - far cry from actual listeners.

So ustream seems to be a free broadcast-yourself kind of service. And this is their professional, patented, sekrit-skwirrel solution?

The s**t has hit the fan on this and i don't see how netdynamix can extricate themselves from this one. From my technology challenged point of view the figures don't add up and especially in light of broadband penetration no's and the associated high prices in S.A.

How many companies actually allow their employees to use the internet line to listen to radio.

erg. sorry. That just seems to be for video streaming.
The audio stream is still a netdynamix thing.

Legacy devices are devices that don't support flash?
Hahaha
Devices that do support flash are legacy devices.

This is an excellent example of NetDynamix trying to baffle their way out of this exposé with BS

“We mainly use Shoutcast to deliver the stations to mobile devices (phones) that are not Flash enabled,” said Stricker. Some of the devices, Stricker explained, are Blackberry and Android devices with certain OS build numbers.
WHAT, no mention of iOS there? Considering NONE of them support flash?

lol

Neither do new versions of Android phones. And certain new laptops don't come with flash pre-installed any more.
But they are clearly living in a dream world in any case, judging by their numbers

I'm sorry even if you do not charge on a 'per listener basis' there is still plenty of motivation to inflate your numbers.

The cost per advertising slot is based on the numbers that you (service provider) give me. The numbers are then used to calculate my cost per advertising slot based on it's popularity. These numbers are practically the only edge I have when it comes to selling my advertising space.

I imagine I would have quite a difficult time trying to convince FNB (just using them as an example because they seem to be on a massive - and incredibly irritating marketing campaign, lately) to dish out 100K for a 30 second ad slot at 17:00 if they knew there were only 180 active listeners as opposed to the 50 000 claimed by the 'funky' numbers my service provider gave me. If I cannot find advertisers - I do not make money - and if I do not make money I will eventually close shop - if I close shop - my service provider loses money - see where I am going with this? So, please do not p*ss on my head and tell me it is raining.

Inflating your numbers goes a long way towards self-preservation at the cost of your client's advertisers.

Agreed your client appears to be somewhat naive and gullible to not actually question your reports and this is not your fault but exploiting this to your advantage is just wrong.

Off topic:
Ballz radio - run a competition where you give away an iPad for the 5000th unique caller between 15:00 and 18:00. Your only form of promoting must be on air and must happen on random days (i.e. not every day untill the competition is won). My guess is you won't ever be able to give it away. Based on this whole saga I strongly suggest an independent auditor being present.

I got disconnected 5 times today so vodacom can count me as 5 customers.......
lol who is their spin doctor..... "read my lips no more taxes" " i never had a sexual relation with that woman"......lol

Bunch of kids running a business, i had a shoultcast server in JHB, what you receive from the shoutcast stats (active listeners) includes the sessions that is dropped and reconnected, how come the highest listener rate is still 1000 x less?

*snort* now it's being called #StreamGate !

avastar cocktails all round...

So they take into account every new connection. Regardless of how ridiculous that is to be considered a vital business metric, it still doesn't account for the massive parity in quoted numbers between Dewsberry and them.

NetDynamix will not want to pursue this if they're in the wrong as they will have to expose their lies...

The Ballz stream's not working at the moment anyway - thousands of disgruntled listeners!!
