Honestly, if I was a GoT fan I'd rather give HBO $15/pm directly than pay Multichoice.

Sure, but $15 isn't cheap - it's clear that what's happening with cord cutting is that people aren't going to save money. In USA you'll be paying $100 to get all the good pay-tv stuff. By the time it's all available on on-demand services, it'll probably cost the same.

At least Multichoice's reply was the 100% correct one this time.

Yep. Regional licensing needs to die. It made sense for broadcast TV but internet is "local" wherever you are in the "free" world.

Also MIH here is moaning not about the lost revenue per se but about people watching unlicensed TV shows. The same can be said if you watch a Youtube video of some political discussion or product review, MIH appears to hate you watching all that "unlicensed" stuff.

They don't appear to hate anyone, it looks like they're stepping away from the issue and saying "hey, not our problem, we don't make this stuff, we're just the broadcaster, which is a nice change.

While we welcome competition, we are concerned about any services offering content that has not been legally licensed for this territory.

That can be read as meaning they're not happy with people watching anything which is not licensed here, whether or not anyone already licensed it here with an exclusivity agreement. At the end of the day they'd stop your kids playing outside because then there's fewer eyeballs on KTV and less ad-Rands. I can understand them defending properties they have exclusivity agreements for, but nothing else.
 
It's not as if I'd pay for DSTV, regardless of whether I'd have access to my favourite TV Series or not. Put quite simply, the cost of a subscription for content that is relevent to me (DSTV Premium) is not affordable. None of the lower packages are even worth paying real money for.

Having said that, I have zero interest in the services offered by Popcorn Time, Netflix or Hulu either.

I'm not sure why you're speculating when they go on to give all their reasons? And they're actually good, legitimate reasons, which just hand the problem on to the content creators which really are the root of the problems. MIH just slap on a 20% markup and broadcast the content, the hate levelled towards them is largely unjustified. It's like hating Spar because the price of beans go up after the bean farmers increase their prices.

What i saved on DSTV went straight to better internet speed and Netflix/Hulu
I'm not missing anything

or will the government protect multichoice?
 
Frankly, even if Multichoice drops their price by 80% I would still get Netflix instead.

More content, when I want and ofcourse NO ADS!

I'd go for it just for Supersport if they offered an 80% discount. Far more convenient than streaming my favourite sports events, and leaves my internet connection open for other things.
