Netflix makes major expansion push

Probably never..

we're not a lucrative enough market, and we don't have the broadband infrastructure at the residential level for it to be profitable for them.

On the bright side different countries typically offer different content which means more variety for us in SA that are using services like Unotelly.

waiting for Uno to add these regions on Dynamo:)

South Africa? When?

Probably never..

Yip.

Well we do, just the market size is tiny. Not even a million people are on ADSL.

Great points :)

Thats what I mean about it not being profitable for them, there are not enough people for it to justify the effort on their part.

yeah, sounds good... but.... i dunno if it will be good for US existing users, if they come to south africa too ...
invariably, if the service is offered here, it will cost us more :)
i guess if they provide the service themselves, and not a 3rd co inbetween, the cost should come down, and not up.
otherwise i guess we can continue to view 'as a usa viewer' like we do at the moment, if the cost should go up unacceptibly

Not going to happen, we're not a big enough market for NetFlix to care about.

We would top out at about MAYBE 150000 clients within the first 4 years.

You see that's so wrong. Why? Because physical location should not matter. What should matter is whether the customer wants to use your product AND has a credit card to pay for it.

Regional demarcations have to go. The internet allows for direct trade. We as end users are the customers, and not Multichoice, or SABC or SKY or Comcast. That's how it should be and how it largely is on the internet in the less regulated parts.

I'm not commenting on the right or wrong of it, merely the reality of it...

The whole regional thing will eventually crumble. Multichoice and others know it very well. That is probably why mweb exists. When satellite and other distribution regimes topple, they will have a proper foot in the door already and smoothly move across.
