The roku needs dns settings to be changed on the router because it can't be changed on the device. I think u no telly has a guide.

Unotelly has excellent instructions on the website.

IMO nobody on here can give you better instructions than the instructions on the Unotelly website.

I did change on the router.... didn't change on any other devices. That's what I find very strange. All my devices connected to my router ...

You need to have manually blocked various IP addresses via your router as per unotelly's instructions. Have you done that?

Nope that I haven't done... let me try... hope that's the issue

I can't seem to find any instructions on unotelly to block other IPHONE addresses

How do I do that?

Just sign up for DNS4me $2 a month and input their DNS servers into your router.

You need to block calls to Google DNS as the Netflix app on the Roku first tries to call this DNS.

Also look at my previous post. I went a bit overboard and block a couple open DNS servers and pings to them as well.

Just beware that blocking those ip addresses could cause issues with Netflix on Android. If this does happen you will be limited to version 3.7.1

I only need netflix on my roku 3, no other device.

I have a Tenda router, do I only block Google dns?

Last I checked unotelly make mention of four IP addresses but refer to the unotelly article posted by bwana.

Hi guys thanks for the help... I got it up and running...

Netflix vs Hulu? What is the better option?

Both! :) Netflix is great for movies and entire seasons of series, just not the latest stuff. Much of that can be found on Hulu.

Okay so I got netflix working all good and now I know what all the fuss is about.... but I can't get Hulu up... I can't even it on my channel store or can't even set up on the website... it tells me not available in my country

With Netflix in SA now, is there any easier way to get the app on Roku?

Just some info regarding Netflix streaming quality on Roku.

I'm sure most of you know you can set the stream quality in "Playback Settings" on the Netflix website. In a nutshell, MEDIUM goes up to 480p, while HIGH is between 720p and 1080p.

For me I wanted to restrict the Roku to only stream 720p and never go above this, but of course setting the "Playback Settings" to HIGH meant that Netflix could jump to 1080p.

The solution is actually quite simple to restrict your Roku to only stream max of 720p. You change your Roku display settings to 720p in the Roku settings. The Netflix app then never streams above 720p. Now you have the benefit of HD and the benefit of not burning as much data as you would on 1080p.

UPDATE: After testing this for an hour, the stream jumped up to 1080p towards the end. So ignore my previous "brilliant" idea, because it is nonsense. Regardless if your Roku is set to 720p, the Netflix app will still stream up to 1080p if your line can handle it.

Hi All,

I've got Netflix US set up on my Roku 3, everything is working fine except for the picture quality. I've tried changing the netflix playback quality setting from high to auto but either way for the majority of the time it streams at 384 or 480. Occasionally it it goes to 720 but not too often. I have a 10mb line with telkom and my internet is usually very fast, speedtest:

Can anyone recommend anything to try improve the netflix quality? I've obviously used the standard method of blocking public dns lookups to get Netflix US working on the Roku. Does this possibly slow down my connection and cause the quality issues? I believe I have set it up correctly:

Or have I perhaps done something wrong or can anyone recommend anything else I can try?

Thanks in advance for the help.

It might be your ISP that is running slow for netflix.
Mine normally ramps up picture quality after a few seconds to full hd.
