Netflix on the Raspberry Pi

Maybe look into YouTube kids as an alternative to Netflix. My 3.5 year old prefers it to Netflix by far.

Will do that as well, thanks man. Will play with the Pi a bit once I have the time. Got a few SD cards so I can install a few instances of everything and play around until I find the one working best.

Would promptly remove my kid from said school that relied on YouTube’s broken algorithm to cater to my kids.

Netflix is properly curated.

Yeah TBH I must admit I love the Netflix Kids section. My kid's a big, BIG fan of the animal shows. Should see him when we watched the new Lion King. Staring at the screen and talking the whole time. Super cute.

YouTube Kids =! YouTube

Yes, it's a diabolical sham of machine learning.

I am fully aware of what it is and any parent that isn't should take some time to watch it themselves.

You are far better off creating a fake account (because you can't create a kids account for Youtube) and curating what your kids watch on Youtube yourself.

Skip Youtube Kids altogether, because it will just take your kids down a rabbit hole of Mickey Mouse wanking himself off and Elsa Gate nonsense.

Trust me, if you aren't prepared to manage what your kids watch for the love of god don't leave it up to Youtube Kids.

In case it's not clear I'm actually in favour of using the real Youtube over Youtube Kids.

OK so I've tried all the links and stuff in here (apart from Android) and none are working. Some simply don't install with the given commands and others are simply too vague to follow. Like, how do I get the Netflix .zip file on the Pi's memory card after I downloaded it on my PC? Can't DL it on the Pi direct, and once OSMC is installed I can't access the root folder on the SD card with the card reader.

Why is this so hard? Hasn't someone else gone before and thought "hmm, the Pi as an HTPC is perfect, I think Netflix should run on it"?

Just download it directly on the Pi?

Is it still working in 2020? I've seen similar posts from 2017/18 around and it's simply not working in 2020 anymore. Apparently something about Netflix stuff being deprecated...
I use it every night, admittedly I haven't tried a re-install recently, last time was September.

If it works, it should still be OK. I've read that the same repos that crashed also caused those versions to go offline, so I'll try that method. Thanks man!

Yes I'm watching Netflix on Rpi4 with Kodi on Raspbian (not the lite version). Install Kodi and then install this addon https://github.com/CastagnaIT/plugin.video.netflix/. Follow the prompts to download Widevine and Bob's your uncle...
This works for me, currently running the addon on a Pi3 with LibreElec. For the most part, it works quite well, just limit the resolution to 720p as the Pi doesn't have enough oomph for higher res. Managed to watch The Witcher without buffering on a 5Mb line. It does cause the Pi to run quite hot, so you may need to upgrade your cooling.

I have a Pi3B with OSMC and netflix works reasonably ok on it but it is not perfect though, I also tried a lot of tutorials that didn't work until I used the one mentioned by @backstreetboy which worked for me.

I do keep the stream at 720p as anything higher is a bit frustrating as it buffers constantly, for the higher def stuff I turn on the PS3.

P.S. For moving files over it is much easier if you install( or enable depending on OS) Samba, then you can just use your normal file browser, but using SSH is not too difficult as long as you get the paths right.

Have you tested this on a slightly "weaker" Pi like the RPi3 yet? I got Netflix working on the Pi using the thing posted above, but the interface is terrible. Like, TERRIBLE.
