Hi

I'm on Vox and having terrible streaming quality.

I faffed around a bit and using tcpdump I can see my TV is requesting video from 23.246.31.174 (ipv4-c094-ewr002-ix.1.oca.nflxvideo.net.) which seems to be physically located in the US?

How do I get it to stream video from a local CDN?

Vox's support is terrible.

Thanks

Anyone?

Does nobody on Vox (or any other ISP) have a similar issue?

Our Planet 2 has been playing in 480p and I just can't get it to play at a higher resolution. It's painful.

Do you have a von enabled or smart dns service running? That is likely the only reason this will happen.

VPN?

Nope, I'm not connected to any VPN server.

I even went onto the browser on my TV and searched "what is my up" and it's reporting my actual IP address, so definitely no VPN involved anywhere.

I switched over to Vodacom and the stream was perfect. So it's definitely a Vox issue.

Do they not have a forum rep?

what dns server are you using? I believe that is the method that netflix uses to steer clients to local caching servers

I use 2 piholes.

One has the upstream servers set as Quad 9 (filtered, DNSSEC) and Cloudflare (DNSSEC).

The other pihole is using unbound as a recursive DNS server.

that could certainly be part of the problem. try using your ISP's default dns servers to see what they resolve to

I will try that, thank you.

But when I switched over to my backup 4G WAN connection with Vodacom, wouldn't that have used my Piholes as well for DNS?

Use your ISP’s DNS and report back.

Cloudflare did not play nicely with my Apple TV streaming and then I switched to Afrihosts own and problem went away.

You can use Quad9 but have to use 9.9.9.11

Hmmmmm, I will have to test this out now. Straight after this MasterChef episode...

Anyone know what the IP addresses are for Vox DNS servers?

Yes i am experiencing the same issue with vox on a 100/100 mb line.

Its certain programs on netflix that have this issue. I cantacted vox about this. They changed settings on the router but issue still persists. All other streaming apps are perfect.

I really think this is a netflix issue as i also noticed the series Our Planet 2 episode 1 plays in low resolution, However episode 2 plays perfect.

Fast.com should also indicate where you getting it from since its powered by Netflix

The issue is my streams are coming from US servers, I can't figure out why.

Changing DNS didn't help but I don't think I used the right IP addresses for Vox, need to call them tomorrow to confirm the correct IPs.

Same here. YouTube. AppleTV and even Disney+ when I use it are fine.

Only Netflix seems to steer me to global servers.

Use 9.9.9.11

Then see here as to why…
