Netflix testing new Ultra subscription tier

Netflix is testing an “Ultra” tier, placed above its Premium tier. Premium is currently its most expensive subscription option.

According to a report from Tutto Android, the Ultra subscription tier will be priced at €16.99.

Reducing the number of simultaneous streams on the standard plan would suck.

So I pay for the Premier, and now I would have to upgrade Ultra to get the same... sounds awesome...

Basically it's a price increase, (not so) subtly hidden behind a "new" package.

Breath of fresh air when you find a company that is not greedy but as they grow they all eventually fall to greed.

Are they?

Netflix Inc. is the Uber of the entertainment programming business. Whether Netflix investors recoil or cheer at the comparison depends on their risk tolerance.

Netflix doesn't share Uber's inclination to push boundaries, and it has a well-functioning business. But both companies are impressive growth machines that rely on outside funding to maintain the momentum. And in both cases, it's not clear what the real trajectory of the business would look like if access to capital dried up.

...

Netflix also said its free cash flow would widen to as much as negative $4 billion in 2018, compared with an already stunning negative $2 billion in 2017. Netflix has already been clear it won't generate positive cash flow for years as it tries to become the preferred entertainment source for the world, and one that has profitable economics. But potentially burning through $4 billion in cash is staggering. Netflix and Uber are betting that the companies should lean into their growth and spend even more to get bigger fast. It could turn out to be a stellar bet. Or fail spectacularly.

Netflix is damn well worth it so I wouldn't even mind an increase, especially now that they're pumping out their own content like there's no tomorrow, a lot of the stuff they produce is top notch and they actually take risks, something that Hollywood completely sucks at.

I wish they could invest in their own video upload service (YouFlix, MeFLix or whatever) that could rival Youtube but with none of the BS that Youtube's been pulling... drop the advert revenue model and charge people to use the service and use that money to pay your content creators accordingly and make it easy to migrate your videos to their platform. Hell I'd sign up.

This,
Im on the standard 2 screen plan, now if this passes the trials, the standard package gets DROPPED to 1 screen only, and premium gets dropped to 2 screens

Netflix Ultra incoming, folks

Ultra is basically Premium with a $3 price increase and four simultaneous streams, just like Premium had before. And HDR.

For me, it's not a big increase over what I'm paying now:

Only $1. But I do have a US Netflix account which was made years ago.

So you're wasting $2 per month just to have a "US" account. Kinda silly IMO.

When SA Netflix launched, I was still using DNS proxies and tried a VPN for a while. I haven't had the incentive to switch accounts to a new SA one. But if this pricing comes into effect and my current account will be downgraded, I'll switch. My family does tend to stream on multiple devices at times, and this is quite useful to us.
