Is anyone using the Netflix UHD package on a vdsl line? If so what speed is your line and if you do a speed test in the app what speed do you get.
I'm on a 20mb line and get less than 10mb. Most of the time it's less than 5mb.

Are you only getting ~10Mbps on your VDSL connection via speedtest?
Is it for everything or only Netflix? Would you mind posting your line stats, adding a tracert to mybroadband.co.za and mentioning your ISP?

I stream in UHD through Netfilx - Sometimes days it just never reaches 2160p though. Not my lines fault, i know i can max out my line with other things no problem

If i do a test through the netflix app on my samsung tv I get between 11 and 15mbs - Don't do that though

What Ive noticed though, maybe I'm just unlucky but when i use the dns servers from unotelly i hardly ever reach the 2160p res

Running on Afrihost home 20mb uncapped

Not sure if Netflix have a local speedtest server here, so the speedtest offered by them may not be reflective of anything at all. Will try to get some certainty on this for you.

Not all content is available in UHD on Netflix. So your throughput won't necessarily indicate some or other problem with your broadband connection...

Yea fair enough, If you have a UHD Subscription and a compatible device streaming it. There is actually a 4k category for UHD content

Netflix's SD quality is on par with DSTV's "HD" - their HD looks as good as a BluRay.

Can only imagine what their UHD looks like - sadly no UHD tv in my house yet.

I tested line again and the download speed for everything else is full 20mb. So I guess it's only netflix that's the issue. Weird thing is that it played more constantly on 10mb line in uhd. Thought it would play uhd all the time. Will test without dns settings and see if it makes a difference.

The picture difference isn't massive like from SD to HD. It's just slightly better. Have a nice tv though curved Samsung uhd that I claimed from insurance. Got it for 12k instead of 22k. Last demo unit. Score!!

Eish I do not know about that. They seem to have recently changed their compression algorithms as I am now actually seeing compression artifacts (especially on dark/grey backgrounds), even on 1080p @ 4200bps.

Just tested it without the Dns settings and it works perfectly. Plays 4K all the time. So no issues anymore

Wait a bit though as the video stream is routed through a VPN if you are using a DNS unblocker with Netflix. The "unblocker" services just need more capacity and in more locations around the world to route the traffic faster.

since you confirmed this is case for you too, i have mailed unotelly to see what they suggest

The unblockers don't work anymore anyway so can't use them

They still work. They have set up new dynamo servers specially for NetFlix
and to be honest, the performance on them is quite bad. Sometimes i don't even get 480p

Low quality streams is just because the stream is going through a vpn now though. So far "ViperDNS" has been fastest from SA but all of them such as UnoTelly will speed up soon too.

Which one do you use? Unblock us doesn't work with fixes they gave me

Internet Connection Speed Recommendations (taken directly from Netflix's website)

Below are the Internet download speed recommendations per stream for playing movies and TV shows through Netflix.

0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed
1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed
3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality
5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality
25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD quality

Maybe the line speed is insufficient...?

like we have been saying though, when not using a geo unblocker it streams at 4k with no problems
So its not the line

All the unblockers used to do was divert the website dns request to the unblocker service and then on to Netflix so the stream would actually go straight to the Netflix servers in the US but since the Netflix changes and blocking methods put in place the stream has to also go through the unblocking service VPN network. This means the website and stream now has to go through some form of VPN. This slows it down and the unblockers have limited capacity at the moment so all they can do is increase capacity and try improve speeds for everyone on their network. The reason why we need the IP blocks is because we CANNOT reach the Netflix servers directly as we will get proxy detected errors. In summery we set up our DNS so that when we visit "Netflix.com" we are connecting to the DNS service and being forwarded to "netflix.com" looking like we are in the US but now the stream is doing the same thing. This is exactly what a pure VPN would do normally.
