So with Netflix coming officially to SA in January how is everyone going to connect? I already have it setup on my PlayStation with unotelly but will probably get another more mobile device to use. I have a Chromecast so I'll see if that works with the app but I think I'll also get a Roku 3, the 4 is too expensive right now or maybe the Chromebit when it is launched.

Why change what you're doing?

Only possible change I'll be making MAYBE is cancelling my US sub and taking out an SA one, if it's cheaper. Assuming Unotelly still does the region switching.

I don't know about that.

I have not seen anything that actually seemed genuinely official or quoted by Netflix.

Every article seems to have fed off every other article that was based on a massive assumption.

That ^

But if they do want to come in they will have to do it sooner, rather than later.

I have 4 Amazon FireTV's with Unotelly configured on my Mikrotik. If the local version of Netflix isn't watered down and cheaper I may switch. Still need Unotelly for Hulu Plus though.

The SA version will definitely be watered down. Even the UK version is limited. I use Unotelly to switch to the US version; which offers th best available content.

I'll keep it exactly the same as it currently is, running on my Apple TV's

I might do the same. As for unotelly it just makes sense to keep it. You don't get all the content in any one place.

Not going to change anything I just want to connect my other TVs with something more mobile than a PlayStation and with the Roku 3 I like the audio through the remote thing.

^^ This.

If I don't find the content I want in the SA version, I'll keep using Hola and the US version.

So... how do you make it work locally then?

No I mean there is no local DNS server like Unotelly has in Jo'burg and Cape Town so you might have a slight additional latency for other things, but probably a paper value anyway.

It's also only for the US region and can't flip channels like Unotelly. But it is free and therefore good to test with...and keep if you are happy. You can pay I recall $10 once off to use DynDNS and no longer need to visit the site once a month, which is less hassle than Unotelly where you need to visit the IP Update page or wait for your DynDNS to sync again.

We've added a new regional DNS server for South Africa, get faster speeds if you live in the area! More info: https://tvunblock.com/blog/2015/05/16/South-African-US-DNS.html

Sadly I believe that server is no more.

You'll notice your link is in fact dead.

I think he means you can only watch series in the US with that DNS. Unotelly is just about global.

Half way there.

Unotelly actually replicates their servers locally, so your DNS lookup will be a little quicker as it's a hop or two away and <50ms.

Others have international servers only and therefore 200ms or so. It's somewhat irrelevant though as once you've done a lookup it's done and the IP is known and therefore the rest of your stuff is full speed.
