Hey guys, please help me.

I have a netgear DG834. My brother and mother use the normal ushaped service but I always have to swap the acounts in the router. Is there not an easier way to do this? People say you can (Dial In) to your other ISP so to speak if your router is set up in a bridge mode. So effectivley I will use the Unshaped Account and the rest will use the Shaped account.

Sorry if this has been posted already.

Anyways thanks very much.

Using your router's IP address in place of the red text:

http://192.167.0.227/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm

Change to Modem only.

Then set up a PPPOE connection on each machine that needs to use the net.

For XP, use the new connection icon...
Type: Connect to the internet,
Set up my connection manually,
Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and pw,
Enter the ISP name,
Enter the user name and PW and Bob's your father's uncles dog's teaspoon.

If one PC, you can create different dial ups per user... you can also have it auto connect when you use the net.

Is there a downside to doing this, bridging a Netgear router? In what way is security affected? If you dial in using the PC, you have to make 100% sure the PC cannot be compromised.
Do you use any functionality on the router, if bridged?

Its on 3 Different Pcs. so i can just take off the router ode and type in the user name and password on all three machines, but on mine i will have to set up two?

can i still forward my ports or will it not work then.
Thanks for the help :D

Cheers

No need for port forwarding, you will each have your own IP. Make sure firewall is enabled. Windows firewall is fine, provided you keep it up to date.

You don't need to forward ports, you are directly connected, you just need to ensure firewall is not blocking them!

Hello :)

Ok i have done all of this. all seemed to work ok. I have set it up like this on the 3 other -cs in the house and all is good.

Now with mine it will only stay connected for about 5 minutes, and then i lose all my connectivity. Why would it do this?

Thanks Very much

Cheers

Hmmm... does the pppoe connection terminate? Or does it stay connected? How many simultaneous logins do your various accounts support?

Its was running on 3 pcs including mine. Stays connected just will not recive any packets. It sends but thats that. I reinstalled windows as i have no idea what it could of been. Now all 3 accounts work perfectly. Just a mission to reinstall all my apps and games etc :D

Thanks for your help though, Appreciate it alot :)
