Hi,

Just a question I never bothered to ask about before.

My Down Stream Connection Speed is 1024 kbps and my Up Stream Connection Speed is 512 kbps.

Why is the connection from my router to the exchange not the same as from the exchange to my router?

Also, I got a 512 kbps line but it seems that the line is capable of 1024 kbps.

Should I go for a 1024 kbps account or should I stick with a 512 kbps account

Thank you,

Lourens

From Wikipedia:
ADSL differs from the less common symmetric digital subscriber line (SDSL) in that bandwidth (and bit rate) is greater toward the customer premises (known as downstream) than the reverse (known as upstream). This is why it is called asymmetric

In SA the most common/typical ADSL connection speeds are:
384kbps down / 128kbps up
1Mbps down / 512kbps up
4Mbps down / 512kbps up
6Mbps down / 640kbps up
10Mbps down / 1Mbps up

If you want to maximize your download speed on a 1Mbps ADSL connection, you should go for a 1Mbps ISP account too.
