Hi. I am having a problem connecting to the internet. The internet light on my netgear modem shows red and i cannot connect to the internet. This only started today, and was working perfectly yesterday.

Is there a way of fixing this problem? Thanks.

The only time this has happened to me my telkom line had been suspended because of a billing mess up their side. Call telkom.

In other words, pick up your phone, can you make any calls?

Alternatively, just go into the router's web page (192.168.0.1 or whatever yours is) and see if it even syncs.

*shrug*

I'm assuming that the router is syncing, and that it can't make an 'internet' connection.
Normally only happens to me if their is problem with the port at the dslam. Call Telkom to have it reset, or log a fault and demand that they switch it to a new port. Make sure they fix the port before letting them into your home. I find that they are very keen to want to come around to your home first because Telkom charge a call out fee if they find that you are at fault. Rather have them check the dslam and your assigned dsl port first. Be assertive!

well i don't know that router, but i would assume such an errors points to a problem with the account/ISP. before we can jump to the 'must be telkom to blame' conclusion, lets investigate.
first, ensure the line is syncing. my router has a "dsl" indicator -if yours' doesn't you'll need to access the web interface to check. if no sync, why? check the connections. can't tell you how many times i've gone 'bloody telkom!' only to find that my dog pulled out the wires :)
if still no sync and you hear a dial-tone when picking up the phone, then consider phoning 0800 375 375 to find out what's wrong.

if there is a sync however, i'm quite certain the problem is not telkom or line related

OP has a DG834g. Internet red light for this router only comes on if there is sync but no internet connectivity. Issue maybe with your ISP, login details, or your port (Telkom).

I just wish OP would come back and let us know if the problem is sorted and what it was.
