Netgear DG834GT + ISDN ??

Hi.
I currently have 3 PC's and a notebook at home.ATM i am using a hub to network the PC's. I don't have ADSL yet but plan to get it as soon as it is available in my area.I use ISDN which is shared on the home network. I plan on buying a Netgear DG834GT. I want this so that I can use it as a wireless router so that i can use my notebook on the network and also when i get ADSL i don't have to get a seperate modem.

Heres what i wanted to know...If i plug my wired PC's into the router and share my ISDN connection..will I be able to use the ISDN connection on my Pc's and Notebook?

where will you be sharing the ISDN connection from?

all pc's connected to the wireless router (via wired and wireless interfaces) should be able to communicate with each other.
 
A Netgear DG834GT is an ADSL router therefore you can buy one now but it will only act as a network switch, wireless access point and dhcp server. You will get no router funtionality because it doesn't have an ethernet wan port (only adsl wan port). So you will still need to use an ISDN routing device (like windows connection sharing and a isdn modem or a proper isdn hardware router)
 
Ok I have an internal ISDN modem on one of the PC's on the network. So i connect to the net with that and ICS enabled.
 
* DHCP on DG834GT needs to be disbled , since there is one will run on your network when ICS enabled defaultly (range 192.168.0.1 ~ x). You can't run 2 DHCP servers in one network section
* ICS PC will take 192.168.0.1, so Router's IP needs to be set manually but not 192.168.0.1, you can use high end of range, like 192.168.0.254 (make a note, otherwise you can't get into router, only hardware reset can restore factory settings)
* connect all PCs (wired/wireless) to Router
* if the wireless laptop couldn't get IP, you have to allocate it manually
IP: 192.168.0.x let x>=128 to avoid the conflict
netmask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.0.1 (the one with ICS)
DNS: 192.168.0.1 or the ISP allocated one, you can check it on ICS PC
 
Nice post. Using Windows' ICS can sometimes be a bit iffy. I've found that running the ICS wizard sometimes helps.
 
Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between a Netgear DG834GT & a Netgear DG834G?

Which is better, and what would the price difference be?

DG834GT runs at 108Mbs. IF all wireless devices are Nergear 108Mbs compliant.

DG834G runs at standard 54Mbs.

If i were u i would go for the GT model. A friend of mine and myself setup his network at home on our own with it and it works like a dream. sure it has wireless and all of that but also in terms of ease of use. GR8

no other router should be used. and now with netgear coming out with there own skype wireless phones (beign released soon) the possibilities are now even more endless.

The GT sounds like the one to go for. I did some searching on the web and there seem to be some mixed reviews. But I think that's because some pf the ppl didn't RTFM and do a firmware upgrade...

Any idea on pricing? R1000? More? Less?

As was said before they use different wireless chipsets ... the plain G runs at 54MBps using a Prism GT while the GT uses an Atheros which supports so called Turbo G technology and also XR or Atheros Extended Range.

At the price point I would go for the GT simply because of this as the Atheros is better at wireless.

On a more technical level they use totally different ADSL chipset i.e the G an TI AR-7 and the GT a Broadcom solution which runs at a much higher clockspeed.

The features are the same and the only difference I can see is that the DG834G supports VPN to VPN while the GT only does VPN pass through.
 
tibby.dude > You are indeed a MyAdsl Master. About 50% of that info went straight over my head :D I'll be using the wireless option pretty much all the time, so thanks for the "the Atheros is better at wireless." snippet.
