Hi All,
New to the forum, just needed some advice on a Netgear router I just purchased second hand. I followed the instructions for basic ethernet connection but no joy. My NIC cannot see the router, i.e. the LED on the card does not light and ipconfig confirms 'Media Disconnected'. The NIC works fine. Suspiciously, when first powering on and with nothing else connected, ALL of the local ethernet indicators light up even when there is no ethernet cable plugged in ( the instructions say they should light only when a connection is established ), followed a fraction of a second later by the power indicator(??), then the test indicator flashes briefly, and then the wireless indicator lights up?? I suspect a hardware fault, but need confirmation on this before I go back to the seller. Any advice greatly appleatiated! :)

Thanks,
Salvatore.

I'm guessing you've tried resetting the router to factory default by pressing in the reset button with a pen?

:L:

Does the Ethernet lights (1-4) stay light up the whole time? Normally the procedure would be the power LED is on, then the self test light should flash, the one next to the power and after that the wireless and Internet light (i) should light up (if the adsl link is detected). If all the lights stay on it is most likely a hardware fault. Saw it on a netgear that I think was hit by lightning a while ago. Best thing I would say to try first is only connect the power, and see what lights is on after it started. Should only be the power led, and possibly the wireless. The i would try connecting the pc to different ports to see if it does not make a difference. One other thing to just check is that you have the correct network cable.

Hope the info helps.

-reset router
-replace/swop network cable
-disable/enable NIC
-recheck connection status
-return to sender
