NetGear DG834GT router - idle time query

Hi

I noticed that when I don't access the router for about 2 days, then my NetGear DG834GT router disconnects (when I try to access the admin page at http://192.168.0.1 it says 'page cannot be displayed'). I then unplug the router's power cord and reconnect it, and then it works again.

What could cause this to happen? There is an Idle Timeout setting for the router but that only applies if you have an idle internet connection and mine is set to zero anyway. My problem is that regardless of the internet connection, the router appears to be 'unavailable' if it is not accessed after say 2 days. Any thoughts?

i have same router....no problems it cant have anything to do with idle disconnect, cos thats just for internet the router should still work like be able to go to router page.....

but then again i dont think my router has been being inactive for 2days.....

contact netgear SA?

I have the same problem with my NetGear DG834GT, although my disconnects happen alot more frequently than 2 days. I am using a wireless network.

try standing the router upright they sometimes have heat issues

Exactly, that's why I don't know what's causing the problem.

Tx, it's already standing upright.
It's not really a big issue to me, because it only happens if I don't access the router when I'm away for more than about 2 days. Otherwise it works fine. But yes, it's not supposed to behave this way...

I have the same problem. Not happy about it. . Maybe upgrade to the latest firmware? Im gonna try that.

Same router, and I haven't had any problems.
If the firmware upgrade doesn't work, then take it back for another one. The duxbury support is pretty good with faulty units.

u need 2 update your routers fireware..
which can be done @ home, go www.netgear.com .search for the router u have, go download teh fireware and follow instructions..

Yup upgrade....

Read the release notes on the firmware update...it specifies there's a fix for an "Idle time" issue on the router.

I upgraded the firmware (1.02.04) when I installed the router on day one.
If I access the router once a day, no problem! But not if I access it after say 3 days of inactivity, then it's dead.
That's why it took me so long to realise there was a problem, because like most internet users, I access the net at least once a day.
