Hi,
My ADSL stopped working and earlier today a technician came to test everything. I received 9Mb/s rather than 10 but I'm not complaining. He couldn't figure out what the problem was, reset the modem a few times and suggested I ask the helpline to do a password verification. Did that and they sent a new password via SMS.

I don't connect to the router via the Ethernet cable (as Asus ultrabook doesn't have a plug for it unless I use an adaptor) so used the iPad to connect to 10.0.0.2 to add new password. Everything worked well, green lights everywhere until I switched on the range extender button. Suddenly my old wifi network names didn't want to connect and now I don't see them at all. I do see 2 new networks, likely new names for my old networks from the modem. But my old passwords don't work :-(

And now I can't get on to 10.0.0.2 through wifi to see if all is OK.

So:
1. Why did the wifi network names change (unless the neighbours suddenly have wifi!!)
2. How can I see what the passwords are for the wifi?
3. Any way I can access the 10.0.0.2 without the Ethernet cable? If not I can get an adaptor from the IT guys at work that will enable me to connect via USB.

Any thoughts?

If you reset the router (hard reset button) the wifi should revert to the default state with no password protection. It is tricky to set it up over wifi though (but should be possible). If your wifi ap names have already changed then the router was most likely reset already by the tech, so try to connect with a blank password, that should let you connect.

It has always been the names etc on the sticker that's why I surprised !!

Will bring an adapter from work tomorrow and see if I can find something on the router software :-(

Have you tried something like WiFi analyser for android? To scan WiFi AP's and check if they have passwords. Then you can switch your router off and on again to make sure it is your WiFi.

Not sure if you can see the pic of my screen taken with phone.

Connected modem with notebook. Went to Setup / Wireless setting. The new SSID that I see rather than the old network name is there. So need to find the password. I suppose that is the "Passphrase"? Seriously long set of characters ... Can I just change that ?

I think if you set the security option on number 3 (WPA2-PSK AES) the auto passphrase will be shorter, that is the one I normally use. And like you found out, you can change the SSID and passphrase to whatever you want. Glad you got it sorted.

Set it like this, easy.
