Hi,
I have a netgear DG834GT, and im having endless problems with it.

1.) When I leave it on for lets say 14 hours, it just switches off by itself, when I unplug it and plug it back in it still doesn't work. When I unplug it and leave it for like 2 mins and plug it back in it works.
I've been told that hot conditions can cause problems with the netgear DG834GT but its like winter, and it happens like after 14 hours, arent routers supposed to be made to be on 24/7?

2.) Frequent internet disconnects, im not sure if this is with Telkom or with the router itself, but after i resetted the modem/router, it works fine.

3.) My wireless is disabled all the time for now, until I get my wireless adapter, but I left my modem and when I got back, the wireless was enabled, and the modem wasn't synchd with the exchange, like the green light for the synching wasn't on. that was strange because it was on just before I left, and the wireless was disabled as well.

any ideas or suggestions what to do?
Did anyone else experience problems such as these?
Thanks ! :)

Revision of firmware ???.

I also have the GT and no hassles yet but another myadsl.co.za member had endless problems like yours and he got it swapped out for a new one at the supplier.

I have the latest firmware, V1.01.28.
I just have the router for like a month now. Do I have to go to the supplier or should I contact Duxbury for a swap out?

mas, I think i am the other member that tibby.dude is referring to. My first router came with the old firmware. I upgraded, downgraded, telkom tested the line, used another brand of modem, cursed and eventually gave up and took it back for a swapout unit. This unit came with the latest firmware, V1.01.28. This unit has been flawless so far. So it could possibly be a faulty unit. In my case it was.

mean monster, thanx man, did u go to duxbery for a swap out or ur supplier? how long did it take 4 u to get a swap out?
man this netgear sucks. i downgraded from V1.01.28 to V1.01.25, gna see how long it can stay 4. :)
thanx! :D

I gave it back to my supplier. He gave me another modem to use in the mean time. They wanted to first test it but was taking too long so he asked them to just swap it. Which they did. I had no downtime though due to the fact he lent me another router.

Did you come right

I seem to be having the same problem, Frequent internet disconnects.

Telkom clain my line is 100%, and they can't pickup any problems.

Regards
Frank

I use the DG834GT, no issues here.

You do know about the unwritten hardware rule that the supplier has to drop every 100th device? Well guess thats the one you got. :p

Sounds to me like a bad power supply. When the unit switches itself off, is the PSU hot or cold?

Well, I've been having a lot of problems with my Netgear DG834G since the 1st of August. Frequent, random disconnects etc. I've had Telkom out on 4 occasions, but everytime the modem seemed to behave themselves when they were around. I eventually got a techie to loan me a Telkom Broadband Router (Marconi) for the weekend so that I could see if it was my router or not.

The Telkom router seemed a lot more stable, but on closer inspections I still got a lot of CRC errors. The thing is, the Telkom router seemed to handle these little errors a bit better and managed to keep the connection "alive" whereas my Netgear would throw it's little router arms in the air and go "wtf?!" and drop the line.

Telkom opened a special investigation and as always the last place they looked, the dslam, seemed to be the problem. I haven't had disconnects yet with my Netgear since.

I would suggest you try out the "official" Telkom routers just to rule out your router because the techies always blame your unofficial router first.

Finally after keeping the fault open for over 4 days, they sent a tech to my house to sit and wait for disconnect and then plug in their equipment, and prove that my modem was the problem.

20 mins in the line drops, unplugs my modem slaps in his laptop, same problem.

After 4 days of been told netgear has problems, empty jacks are causing the problem ( I must place micro filters at every open jack).
That the dslam, the exchange, the line is perfect, my hardware is to blame.
Dismissing logs I had from the isp showing that the reason for disconnect was a port error.

I get a new port, on a new dslam, on a card to myself.

Well only time will tell if the problem is solved.

Wish they would believe their paying customers that when they say there is a problem there is a problem

i had the same problems, swopped the modem out and now its fine.

well, netgear does suck!
but i got it swopped out (finally).
the one i got came stock with V1.01.28 firmware just like mean monsters one.
and its been "on" for about a week now n it hasnt yet swithced off by itself.no internet disconnects. everything seems fine so far.
but ya netgears service sucks bigtime, i even contacted duxbury, its over 2 weeks now and im still waiting for a technician to contact me. hehe. i dont need them now anyway.
in my opinion hellkom sucks big time, netgear is even worse! :D

I got a netgear DG834G - haven't had a single prob with it currently running Firmware Version V2.10.17.
Never had that "Power off" problem either.
A couple of times I have pulled the plug out by accident I found that you do need to leave it for a couple of minuts before powering it up again.
That could be a builtin "Fail safe" device perhaps - so you don't fry the thing turning the power on and off repeatedly...?

Dont bash it until you have tried others..... I would like to see other routers with an Open Source policy... also - the VPN feature on the netgear kicks ass! ;-)

It might suck... but there are suckier.. ;-)
