Whenever i go onto the website http://10.0.0.2 to configure my netgear router it gives me the following error:

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://10.0.0.2/

The following error was encountered:

Connection to 10.0.0.2 Failed

The system returned:

(111) Connection refused

The remote host or network may be down. Please try the request again.

Could you please help me in solving this error
Thanks:)

What ISP are you on ? I know that URL, Im with Telkom and also use a Netgear router. They provided me with great help, with setting this thing up. There is a specific number you dial. But anyway ...

The best way to configure your settings, is to attach the router to your PC via a LAN/Ethernet cable.
That provides a direct link to your router, once connected, the default username and password is "admin".

I am also with telkom. I also have a netgear router that telkom provided me with. My router is attached to my pc via the ethernet cable. The problem is when I go to http://10.0.0.2 it gives me the error mentioned above and does not ask me to enter my username and password

You didn't maybe change the default IP address of your router?

first off are you sure that your routers IP is 10.0.0.2? check underneath there should be a sticker to confirm.

if you changed it you should be able to do a reset to revert back to the origional

if you are sure then check your pc's IP and make sure it is in range, i.e 10.0.0.x where is x is something other than 2

_______________

if you were able to access it before then either the routers ip address has changed, your pc's ip address has changd or there is a conflict on the network.

Also just do an ipconfig cmd quick, see that you have no conflicts.

Try ping it too?

did you try : 192.168.0.1 ?

(clear your history and temp file cache on your browser first.)

sorry please explain why?

Had a few issues myself where entering the wrong IP address would lock me out of the modem. googled the error and that was suggested. Without clearing the cache, entering the right IP would still lock me out.

OK first off you put this in the wrong place it need to be under networking and security.
2nd.
first you have to verify you are typing in the right address.
ie goto start > run > type cmd ( or open command prompt from programs>accessories )
in command prompt type ipconfig
it will list your ipv4 address and your gateway.
the gateway is your router's IP.
if this is 10.0.0.2 then great next step.

type in cmd window ping 10.0.0.2 this should give back a ttl and should work if it does not you can't reach your router.

Try restarting your router and also your computer.
try using internet explorer ad also try mozilla.

if these steps don't work you have a problem most probably with the router but more troubleshooting would have to follow

Just reset your router to defaults by holding in the reset switch. Please just take note that when you do this that you'll need to know your ISP username and password.

I think it does not want to respond to 10.0.0.2 because you set it in bridge mode.

Once you reset the router to its defaults, your PC should be assigned an IP address by the ADSL modem's DHCP server.
