Have ADSL and a NETGEAR router. Can only connect to local only with wireless. Netbook wireless worked fine at the airport and could connect to internet etc. Anyone else had this problem.

Well, the question should be if you are using fixed IP's at home, or DHCP?
You say your laptop can connect to the wifi, but you get no Inet?
When connected to the wifi, can you ping the ADSL router?
Is your ADSL in bridged mode or not? I think it should not be for this set-up.
Is your Netgear in briged mode? It should be.

i dont see the regular netgear "192.168.0.1" ip anywhere.
is this telkom modem different to the dg834g ?
 
can you access the modem settings and what ip do you use when/if you do?
 
have no idea what is happening now..uplugged my network cable..and left the wireless on..and still able to post on here..think wireless just kicked in..didn't changed any settings tho..
 
ok. weird. explanation pls..in non IT terms.
restarted my laptop. connect to wireless. no internet. connect to broadband connection without the cable successfully..then able to surf. what am i missing..
