Netgear won't sync but D-Link does?

Hi

I have a Netgear DG834G and a D-Link 2400.. The D-Link will sync fine and I can connect and browse the net quite happily however the Netgear , on the exact same line with exact same cables and exact same scenario (i.e no filter and modem direct to line with no phones) will not sync.

The ADSL led just blinks it's life away.

Can anyone help ?

P.S I have tried changing the modulation type from Auto to both ADSL2+ and ADSL but still no luck.

UPDATE !!! - Connected the Netgear at a friend's place. Line Sync successfull , ADSL led solid green , Status shows connected , Internet led solid green however ANY site I try to browse to redirects me to the Netgear router configuration main page..DNS address is resceived and is resolving..

Out of interest - connect the damn thing back at my place and still don't get sync ... ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH !! .. And here I was thinking Netgear would be the better choice instead of D-Link.

Netgear sucks and Dlink doesn't? Seriously though, probably a hardware fault with the Netgear. Try it on a mate's line?
 
I've had the same issue with my Mecer Router. Swapped it out for a D-Link. Mecer worked fine at my friends place, didn't sync here. Phoned Telkom, said the line was fine bla bla. Sent out 3 technicians over a week. Eventually the PC shop I got the router from swapped it out for this D-Link. All is fine. The tech at the PC shop told me that another customer had the same issue when Telkom changed their ports on the DSLAM. A fault on Telkom's side that they didn't pick up and the router wasn't liking it.
 
Thanks for all the suggestions.. So the issue with sync at my place is resolved with a firmware upgrade to V1.6.01.34... guess I'm lucky coz that's all it took.. All works well now but I think I'm not gonna give up the D-Link too quickly....:-)
 
I also recommend the DGTeam custom firmware! Either that or the official firmware from NetGear?
