Netstar suffers data breach and possible ransomware attack

Have seen this coming from miles away.

The tracking app is very unstable and just does not function on most Fridays - we have had a running joke about this for years that the devs are obviously punching out early.

It indicates a general disinterest in their product and by extend then also the security around it.

was told this by our company rep about 2 weeks ago, ransomware hit them in the beginning of the month

Got the alert from our labs the day before yesterday, some chatter around selling it first.
Been through some of the data, it’s not good. But then and again ransom attacks never are…

Need to know what personal details have been compromised, if they have your vehicle type, address etc it could become a nightmare for people with high demand vehicles who will suddenly become easy targets.

This is a catastrophic breach. According to an email Netstar sent me today
  • For current and former subscribers as of 23 June 2025: name and contact details; account or customer reference numbers; identity or company registration details; banking details contained in billing records or debit order instructions, vehicle details (such as registration number, make, and model) and physical and postal addresses.
Is there anything one can do to pursue having them fined? If there is no consequence, they will not learn.
