Network access

Alright I give up.

We have a LAN here at work, which connects to the internet, and only the two of the computers can access the internet.

The layout is as follows:

- Computer A connects directly to the router (Has internet access).
- The router has a cable running to an 8 port switch.
- Computer B connects to the switch (Has internet access).
- Computers C, D, E connect to the switch (No internet access, but can access the other computers on the network).

They've all been newly formatted with XP Pro. I've disabled the Windows firewall on each of them. I've set IP addresses to automatic so they'll each be allocated the correct ones.

Any ideas?

Assigned a static IP address and made both the Preferred DNS and default gateway as 192.168.1.1 (Router's IP).

No luck.
 
you didnt say how the router itself connects to the net . . .
 
Does your router maybe have MAC address filtering or a connection limit set up?

Because the PC's will see each other through the switch but not the net via the router.
 
It doesn't have MAC address filtering. Question is why would one of the computers connected to the switch work but not the others?
 
I have the exact same setup at home. Shouldn't you assign the IP's to the machines manually maybe? Just a thought. Each PC must have the DNS etc. of the router though as JohnnyQ said.

I put the IP allocation on manual. Weird because the computer I'm typing off of has automatic IP and it's connecting.
 
if manual ip works then it's the router's dhcp scope configuration i wud guess
