I've had numerous hdd's fail on me which i lost a lot of important stuff.

I am interested in buying a NAS namely the seagate blackamor 220 but after reading the reviews on amazon that if fails and stuff, i am a bit skeptical now. A good thing about the seagate nas 220 is that you can attach a printer and external usb HDD. I have been looking at the drobo fs but its too expensive.

I will be connecting the NAS to my router and accessing it from mostly apple macs and the occasional windows laptop at home.

I have a lot of movies, music and photos that will be accessed from my apple tv, mac mini and laptops.

Anyone has experience with NAS and can recommend a good secure NAS device?

Netgear has some 4+ disk products that support RAID 5. Rack mount kit was around R20k last time I looked. Seem to recall a 6 disk desktop type unit for around that price too.

I use the iomega home media drive which supports NAS and they work very well, pricing is good on them too. Otherwise if you have an old pc lying around then freenas is very cool.
