Hey guys,

Have three friends coming over later today for a mini LAN at my house, I just wanted to make sure if the network configuration that I have in mind will work.

I have the following:

1x Router
1x Switch
1x Crossover cable

Setup that I have in mind is as follows:

One of my friends and myself will plug into my router directly, then I use my crossover cable to connect the router to my switch, then my other two friends plug into the switch with straight (non-crossover) cables on the switch.

Will this work correctly ? I can't see how it won't work, but if not then I'll have to move around some furniture in order for us to sit closer to one another, because we will not be sitting in the same rooms :D

Its not important for them to have internet access as we just want to LAN.

Would like some clarification from you guys on whether or not it will work correctly.

Thanks in advance,

SC

Hey greg,

I have a Billion 7300G router and a CNet 8-port fast ethernet 10/100 switch.

:)

Thanks Surv0, I also know that I won't need a crossover, but the thing is, my other two friends are in the other half of my house and the crossover cable is about 20m long, and I don't have a straight cable of that length, hence the reason why I'm using the crossover ;)

The point being 99% of routers and switches these days have Auto-negotiation and auto-switching so they can take straight or crossover cables without a hassle :)

Should work jsut fine, so long as your TCP/IP settings are fine. For ease of use just let the router hand out that info.

Enjoy the gaming
