I am having trouble getting my Ubuntu Laptop and Ubuntu Home server to appear under my networked devices in Windows 7. My Ubuntu devices can see my Windows devices just fine however the reverse is not

I would like to have it such that network discovery works for my Ubuntu devices. neither my home server nor laptop show up on my windows devices (can access them using their IPs with \\<ip-address>)

So network access is not the issue I just would like it so that the windows PCs on my network can see my shared stuff on my Linux boxes without having to type out the ip's

I have tried using this config for samba. restarted my service etc. Nothing

What network setting are you using under Win7? Are you using the 'Homegroup' or 'Workgroup'? 128bit or 40/56bit encryption?

Do you have the workgroup setup correctly in Ubuntu? I had to add 'workgroup = WORKGROUP' under [global] section in smb.conf to make my setup work.

Yep done all that >:( still tackling with it. All i want is for my Ubuntu PCs to show up on windows networks (ie have network discovery)

Make sure DNS client and SSDP is enabled in services. Also check UPnP is enabled.
Also go to ADVANCED NETWORK SHARING and enable everything for HOME/PUBLIC networks and enable 40/56bit encryption.
