The lights on my router are flashing and I can no longer connect. Looks like it went off between 1 to 2 hours ago.

The little booklet says flashing lights mean it's searching for a network. Is it just me?

I restarted the router twice and tried reconnecting/switching network modes. Still flashing.

Hi @Forum Reader

Please provide me with your email via PM and i will look into it

So an update on this. For some reason I can no longer get any 4G connection. The lights just flash if I try to set the router to NSA.

I got my router just over 2 weeks ago and had a terrible experience with the 5G. So I forced it to use 4G only (NSA setting) which was stable and worked well for 2 weeks. It had around 20mbps download and 15mbps upload but the main thing was that it worked. I'm on the Home Premium package.

Since yesterday morning I can only pick up a 5G connection which still works terrible if it works at all. Today I cannot even get onto the forum. Had to use my Vodacom sim to post here.

Maybe because of this?

Maybe because of this?

Probably. Think I'll have to cancel or switch to a 4G package. How's the experience for the 4G people been?

Also, everything their CEO said below in that article is the complete opposite for me. NSA/4G was better in every way.

5G for me: Like 30% of the time I can't even browse the forum. Max upload speed I've ever seen on 5G was around 1mbps. It ranges between zero and 1mbps. I got around 15mbps to 20mbps upload with their 4G. Ping/latency was stable on 4G. On 5G it's all over the place as I keep disconnecting randomly. Even when connected for a period of time on 5G the ping is always going up and down by 50ms every couple of seconds. That's the most stable it ever gets on 5G.

Rain CEO Willem Roos confirmed to MyBroadband that they will be disabling the 5G router’s functionality to connect to 4G “over the next couple of months”.

Roos said this formed part of the transitioning of its 5G network from NSA to SA architecture.
“There are significant benefits to SA, from better stability, increased upload speeds, and lower latency,” Roos explained.

Edit: Are there any uncapped internet that always works in SA? For less than R1k a month and speeds of about 20mbps and upload of at least 10mbps with stable ping. I've been using two sims, Telkom LTE and Vodacom LTE capped packages for years which work ok but I've been using more data recently so I need to top up often. I've experienced more issues with Rain in a few days compared to many years with Telkom/Vodacom so it's not something I can rely on. The Rain router is currently just sitting unused and I'm paying R1k a month for it.

Anyone here using the rain 4G uncapped for R479?
  • Unlimited data
  • Speeds up to 10Mbps
  • Basic quality streaming resolution*
  • Use in any 4G enabled device – including phones, MiFis and home routers.
*Basic streaming resolution will provide a streaming quality resolution of up to 360p.

If the ping is stable and it's always connected then it will be way better than the 5G for me. Only concern is the "speeds up to 10Mbps". Are people getting close to that or is it a lot lower in reality?
